Catt and easterby are not having any positive influence....farrell is on his last legs...

France were their own worst enemies today...dont let the scoreline fool you...

That kelleher try was the luckiest you will get at test level

I still think the penalty for the contest in the air which led to that try was dubious. Both players going for the ball, both in a position to catch it. Not sure why that was a penalty.

So many here love to stick the knife in to the lads, team and country when we lose a rugby match...

A single score was all. Against France...60 million people. Far more into their rugby than we ever were..

But as an Irishman I’m delighted they lost.
The team is as Irish as an ‘Irish bar’ in Bangkok.

Rugby is and always has been an elitist sport.
.. and don’t start me on the national anthem mega mix !!

Ahhh so now we are going to use population as an excuse to accept mediocrity...

    It’s not 60 million v 7 Million

    It’s 23 v 23.

French were very poor today, we could have sneaked it in the end . A bit more composure and it could have worked out for us .
I’d pick the following team for Italy match , who will be a lot better than France were today

    1. Healy/kilcoyne
    2. Kelleher
    3. Porter/furlong.
    4. Henderson
    5. Ryan
    6. Beirne
    7. VDF
    8. Stander
    9. Murray
    10. Sexton
    11. Earls
    12. Henshaw
    13. Ringrose
    14. Larmour/Conway
    15. Keenan.

We would have been pinned in our own 22 for the whole of the second half if it wasn’t for the boot of Lowe. Has a cannon on him.

Have to agree with above. Poor performance from "fans"

As for stadium sound. Jaysus sounded like playing away in Turkey. He should be sacked.

Happy to be wrong about Byrne, both him and Burns were fine. I don't think either will reach the requisite standard though so.

Man of the match for Ireland is Paul o connell the line-out is a few leagues above where it's Been for years, as for the game it shows where we are comfortably 3rd in the northern hemisphere. There's room to improve but solid in contact need to find a way to drag our marquee player's into games more.

Well at least he can kick

Pity his tacking and defensive reads aren’t functioning

Head is not in the sand

    We lost a match....

Some of the slagging and criticisms are way OTT, but not surprising..

I'm going to say we did better than I expected before the game.

I'm also going to say I'm frustrated at the apparent the lack of ideas in locker to bring our best players onto the ball and advance up the pitch.

I would also congratulate France for their ability to change up and down the gears at will and also for putting Robbie Henshaw in their pocket all day.

Williams more or less saying Farrell has not brought ireland forward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,634 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Lowe had as many bad kicks as good kicks.
His almost try was only an almost try.
    His missed tackles were criminal.

The only reason we lost by two wasn’t down to our ability, it was French mistakes that stopped them scoring more and allowed us a soft try.

The French mistakes flattered the score line but the were never in trouble.

I think a leading voice is something were missing too in the times where we were really under pressure, during the 3rd quarter of the game there were no Irish voices to be heard in an empty stadiums. Very telling nobody driving performances, nobody overly confident. But a team of world class players who can very much put it up too anyone.

We replaced Ryan and POM with Henderson and Ruddock. Little to no drop off in quality. Replaced Murray and Sexton with JGP and BB. Huge drop off in quality. Therein lies the issue.

We were beaten by a better team, well done France. We need more quality players to match the large playing population countries. More investment in youth, get all the academies to Leinster standard and have more a level matches.

Supporters are allowed critique their team.

This is a discussion forum, nobody would be here if everyone blindly said whopee, well done, better luck next time.

Sure it matters not what we say here but we have been getting progressively worse since the New Zealand win.

"The helicopter view" is that the buzzword now? Ireland lost two games against two teams that didn't turn up.

How is Jack Carry not considered for this panel, he surely adds something different at 10.

We didn’t replace Ryan with Henderson. Henderson has been a regular Ireland starter for years.

Muddy Williams is an awful spoofer. Always has been. He's sometimes right, like a stopped clock. An example him saying that France have moved forward more than we have while omitting the fact that they have 28 pro teams to our 4.

Andy Farrell is an excellent defence coach...

He is not a head coach.

Missed tackles and a few handling errors. Can't blame a coach for that really, that's down to the individual.

Both teams should have had 2 or 3 more penalties for holding on, the ref just completely ignored the breakdown, weird to watch.

Both Burns and Byrne were decent today, which is all Sexton has been for a while. So the clamour to keep Sexton around needs to end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭ersatz

Attacking play is so poor. No invention out of the centers, beyond Ringrose stepping and slipping. Everything is so lateral. No weak side runners at an angle, no effective grubbers or dinks. Best piece of of handling was Lowe and JGP along the sidelines.

Catt needs to be given the boot.

Plus no forward coming onto the ball at pace. France, Italy, and England are at their most dangerous with this simple tactic. Ireland never do it. France made yards all day all day with direct carries and off loads down the middle. Kicking was brainless, I have no idea how Farrell intended to break France down today. Very disappointing given that Irish pressure disrupted France thoroughly early on. I think it boils down to a real lack of quality in players we have and a commensurate lack of tactical preparation by the coaches. Lowe is out of his depth unfortunately though maybe we’d feel different if Keenan has given him another yard for his try. I felt bad for the players late on, they had put themselves in a position to win, against the odds, but had no real strategy to close it out. And I don’t think Sexton and Murray would have made a difference.

Positives are that we disrupted a very good French team and made them look ordinary for most of the game. Line out and scrum were good, ruddock, henshaw, ringrose, CJ, were solid. And we came close, if Burns nailed that early penalty who knows.

So we just give up and accept we will never compete with France? Interesting attitude.
