Thinking of entering scheme where you plant 30m along riverbank. Mostly willow growing on bank presently, any ideas as to trees to plant? Land heavy clay but dry being next to river, could flood but rare enough. TIA

Alder and Popular are good options too

Alder works well, it thrives in wettish conditions.

Which scheme is this? I thought you had to keep a minimum distance away from watercourses?

Local river catchment scheme to improve water quality, limited places so not sure to get accepted. Controlling runoff from yards, fencing watercourses etc. Thinking about planting some land for a while anyway so this is an option in this
