    Hi all,

Anyone have any experience, good or bad, of this Mitsubishi 1.8 diesel engine and specifically this era of diesel lancer.
I currently have the 1.5 petrol in an '08 and aside from being pretty drab inside its offers Corolla levels of reliability for half the price!
Been looking at the diesel ones and they offer decent value compared to their more popular competitors.
Just wondered if the engine is any good or is there any other stuff to look out for with them?

    Thanks in advance.

    Any thoughts at all?!!

Or is it that bland of a car that it doesn't even warrant an opinion..:pac::pac:

They’re actually quite a nice engine. The biggest thing that would put me off is that it was only in the ASX briefly and the Lancer, so getting used parts or even motor factor parts mightn’t be as easy as a more mainstream car.
I don’t know if any big issues with them.

The lancer can look quite smart in the right spec. The brother had one with 18s and a spoiler and a few bits in that nice red colour. Looked very well.

    Thanks Colm,

    I'm looking at this one.

The only thing thats putting me off is the engine management light is on. I have queried it with them and they haven't run a diagnostics on it and can't tell me why its on.

I'm debating whither I risk it or leave it!
It's got 15 months test and a full years tax, so I'm wondering who would tax it for a year then offload..:o

Maybe I'm totally off but is that not a service overdue warning? The symbol looks like a wrench to me or is that just a general symbol that Mitsubishi uses for engine management?

Does that mean it hasn’t had a service in 71 months?

Did you bid on it? Supposed to be up today at 4

Ya, Thats what I was wondering!
I'm on the live auction now. Thinking of bidding depending on the interest!

There sure is. They are getting through them fairly sharpish.

Didn't buy it in the end.
Sold for a hell of a lot more than I expected it to!

What did it go for, around €4k?

    Yip.
With buyers fees it was €3,700.
Still a decent motor for the money. Full year's tax and 15 months test.
I was just winging it for a bargain though so it was out of my range!

I don’t think there’s many proper auction bargains.

I wouldn't have much experience of them.

Out of 80 odd lots today, there was about 4/5 that I thought were really well priced in the context of actually keeping to drive not to sell on.

Hi dunno if your still interested in this kind of car but I've a 2011 lancer with the same engine.

Nothing but praise, nearly bulletproof have driven it 3 years, 2 on a provisional and 1 now on full license. Insurance quote in my own name wasn't even bad for a 150bhp car which gives alot of passats and golfs a run for their money.
I will say there are 2 things that annoy me
    1) the stereo and radio are pretty bad, considering it's a fairly modern car and most ford's of the time had much better stock steroes.
    2) Road noise can be loud enough at higher speeds, this is I suspect to having quite thin doors compared to other cars.
The diesel mileage is VERY good I used it alot before and still a fair bit during the pandemic and would forget last time I filled it up.
Overall I would definitely recommend it but it has a typical mitsubishi trait of having wafer thin paint that is easily chipped off.
