There's that hairdresser in Balbriggan this morning.

It's only the start of it, IMHO. Other businesses will start opening and will make less of a song and dance about it to avoid detection.

10km limit, non-essential retail; even putting these things on the map with a semi-firm date might be enough to convince people to hold fort.

"Level 5 will remain until at least 5th April at which point we will review", just won't cut it.

So Feb not even finished and we are not even going to see March, how ****ing useless and lazy this government is...

Like a broken record playing a long ****ty song that never gets anywhere and bores the piss out of people.

It is bonkers to think that is what currently looks like they are about to offer!

    Are they for real!?

Are they gambling on holding us in and then over delivering for the late spring and summer. Must be!

Agreed - if you dont give people an outlet they will end up disregarding all the regulations collectively. If they got rid of the stupid 5k limits and allowed for travel within your county it would go a long way to placating people.

Right now I recognise the 5k rule as totally stupid, and if I'm going to break that covid rule I dont really care too much about breaking others either.

They may well have factored that reduction in compliance into their thinking. NPHET after all warned about it.

Ben Gilroy doing great recruitment for his hateful shower of shitehawks now, sickens me that these nutjobs are gathering followers from genuine people in genuine despair.

This craic will be over soon folks, let's not all become tinfoil hat wearing fascists just yet... please..

They may well have, in which case they're yet again punishing those who stick to restrictions.

I'd still look on it as an attempt to help us all out but I'd like to know where we are going please. There's really nothing to be gained from blaming those with lower levels of social cohesion.

Dunno can much be read into this, could just be picking end of June so businesses and workers have certainty but interesting anyway

    John McGuirk. Ok. Enough said!

He's a social conservative but not a fundamentalist.

“Ministers don’t expect any meaningful reopening of society after April 5th”

Ah so it turns out we can have dates after all. Only for schools though, for some reason.

Any date for construction? I would expect so, since it didn't close anywhere else.

Micheál Martin on the distance restrictions last year:

'On the travel restrictions, Martin said “there is no remaining serious justification for the 5 kilometre limit”.

“The public health concern is how people behave around others – not how far they are from their home. In fact, the research shows that this limit may in fact be forcing people in urban areas into more crowded situations.”'

    Can someone tell Micheál Martin?

Last summer hardly anyone died despite widespread reopening.

Why is January treated as the only relevant example of what will happen if we reopen?
