He's a domestic extremist. I see him in the same vein as the Gemma O'Doherty's of the world. He's out to sow fear and division.

He is very knowledgeable on this topic and has mainly been right tbh. Can see why him and McKonkey are hated by many. Seem to lack the emotional intelligence at times with the way they communicate their messaging compared to say Luke O'Neill.

11 months ago, Sam McConkey was charging around the place shrieking that 120,000 people were going to die in Ireland of Covid-19.

An overestimation of 3,000%. To put the gravity of that 3,000% overestimation in context, the average annual salary in Ireland is €48,946. If you were to overestimate your salary by 3,000%, you would be budgeting for a salary of €1,468,380 (i.e. three times your annual salary every single month).

That's not a small overestimation. It is an overestimation which renders any further statement from him on the pandemic irrelevant.

He is an extremist who set out to terrorise, and nothing will deter him from his insane, hysterical over-reactions. He is a figure of contempt and mockery, not a voice to whom we should listen.

NPHET letter leaked to government where they describe normal as "some way off".

Good luck with that, our neighbours are currently returning to normal in 4 months.

Also details deficiencies in the health service. Still yet to be even remotely close to being sorted, despite the government having a year to do so. Shambolic.

Technically it dropped below 5% yesterday, it just got rounded up from 4.96% to 5%.

    But yeah, 4.78% today.

The bigger deal is the 4.09% positivity rate on 18,205 tests.

That's a steep drop over the last 3 days. Dr. Glynn (I think) suggested we could be at 200 cases by Paddy's Day and I was very skeptical. But...

This is how India's cases dropped so dramatically. It shows how effective public health interventions can be.

The letter wasn't leaked at all. It was sent last week and published on the Government website yesterday.

    More lazy fearmongering journalism.

I think your theory from the other day Seamus about essentially close contact testing tracking down chains of transmission is beginning to hold more weight.

We saw a bump when the close contact testing at day 5 restarted, a week later it was changed to day 5 and day 10. We'd only be seeing cases from 2 weeks ago in that case their close contacts being tested in the last few days. Does very much look like what Prof Nolan predicted, close contact testing would give the impression of a stalling

For the most part that reads like a call to strengthen the health service rather than extended lockdown in fairness.

    Still trolling I see.

You were banned from the school thread with good reason. All you do is troll instead of doing your best to honestly reply.

I am not a teacher. We have gone over this before numerous times, and I KNOW you know this.

My decision lies in the area of a parent to my kids and making the best decision I can for them. One that I really don't have great options in as if we were to keep them home we lose their teacher's support. Trot on.

    How am I trolling???

Apologies I thought you were a teacher.

You keep asking the same questions and people are giving you all the information at hand from NHPET etc.

But you still don't take those answers.

So I wrongly assumed you were a teacher and said if you're that worried then don't go into school and you are entitled to do that.

    Trolling I wasn't.

By the way many people are keeping their kids off so you wouldn't be alone.

The team also warned again of the higher risk associated with certain activities including “dining, drinking, exercising, singing or shouting”. I'd say the Nphet Christmas party is some craic....

It will be hard for them to adjust come Summer

They are an absolute disgrace, with Tony Holohan allowed to dictate as he pleases.

Case in point is Tony Holohan going against NIAC and their recommendations RE Astrazenica. His decision looks more abysmal with each passing day and the data emerging. You're not allowed to mention his past disgraces on here either but given that the government have all but handed over leadership of the country to NPHET, serious questions must be asked.

It will be hard for them to adjust come this weekend. A lot of pubs opening for takeaway pints and the weather looks good.

People are sort of done with it now. Government need to step up. Increased socialising is happening whether they like it or not.

NPHET did not go against NIAC on AZ.

The guidance will likely not be limited to AZ only. Once more viral vector vaccines get approved the guidance from NIAC may still remain to have vulnerable cohorts vaccinated by MRNA vaccines where a timely intervention is possible

More positivity, because that's the mood I'm in:

The last time we had a positivity rate over 6% was 10th February
The last time we had more than 1,000 positive was was 13th February
The last time we had more than 900 swabs was now more than a week ago; 17th Feb.

Today's rate is the lowest positivity rate in 70 days.

    14-day average is 795, 7-day average is 737, 5-day average is 696.

        5. A cautious and sustainable approach should be adopted in relation to the easing of measures. Subject to
continued improvement to the end of February 2021, there should, however, be scope to faciliate the
safe return of in-school education and childcare services but this must be on a cautious and phased
basis. It is also critical that non-COVID health and social care services are resumed. All efforts should be
made to ensure that these measures are associated with a minimum level of linked mobility, and in
particular, it will be essential that all those working from home continue to do so.

NPHET don't claim to have the expertise to decide which years should return, just that it should be phased

        Worrying reports from CSO today.

41.7 percent of those polled out of 1621 people rated their life satisfaction levels as low. For comparison, this never went above 15.3 percent previously.

74.4 percent of people between 18-34 said that their mental health had been impacted negatively, with 20.5 percent of 18-34 year olds reporting that they were depressed "all or most of the time."

The sh*tstorm that awaits down the line from this could be very troubling. I guess when you sacrifice literally every aspect of life for Covid, this is what happens.

At least these people have their whole lives to look forward to, paying off the billions borrowed to fund this!

And the 100yr(+) olds that got their vaccine a few weeks ago can die from natural casuses, alone in a few months time anyway...
