There are always gardai injured in these situations, and yep, sometimes from colleagues.
    Happens often.

Of course, if there was no public order incident, there would be no injuries

I can 100% guarantee that if an actual peaceful protest was organised, there would not be any of the issues that we saw last Saturday.
If the protest was organised by the SME Ireland, Irish hoteliers and the Vitners organisation, so you think the same thing would have happened?

I think you should care who you are marching beside.

this is true, as we saw with the pbp 'anti austerity' marches, the love ulster march, the blanchardstown riots, the jobstown riots etc... an antagonistic organiser absolutely sets the tone and fans the flames.

Other organisations are capable of having peaceful marches but the second you involve PbP, Antifa, SF, AFA Ireland, NP, IFP, RISE it all descends into violence.

Thank you. That's a realistic appraisal of the situation.

Nah, that's what is needed, imo.
Actual business owners and their representatives need to peacefully protest. I'm sure they would have stewards and the likes of scrotes from last Saturday wouldn't get a look in.

This is what 100% is needed but you will always get a certain section of society arriving and causing trouble. There is growing divide in this country and will get worse.

The media are picking and choosing what is classed as disgraceful scenes (Saturdays Protests - Disgraceful & Blanch Protest - Silence) and forcing it down many peoples throats.

Because the protests was organised through groups on facebook and telegram that are far right extremist groups, because the National Party and Yellow Vests had heavy presences there as well as QAnon conspirators. There wasnt just 1 missile thrown at Gardai. The "Antifa plant" is old hat to be wheeled out at this stage.

where did i mention ANTIFA ?

so you think anyone who attended the march were complicit in supporting the " far right " ?

There seems to be a great moral panic about these protests and about “far rightism” in general. Indicating perhaps that leftism has been absorbed into the establishment.

the far left are viewed as completely respectable by the gatekeepers of morality in this country , its been that way for years

I wouldn't put my job at further risk by association. Simple as that.

If I was pictured on the front of a newspaper alongside a bunch of thugs assaulting or harrassing gardai it wouldn't do my job any favors.

No, it wouldn't but then again would you really be worried about what the media in this country think? Generalising everyone who has an issue with the lockdown and this government's plan as a far-right extremist isn't exactly covering themselves in glory either.

Demonising anyone who criticises you and trying to paint guilt by association is extremely dangerous and if people are afraid of expressing their views in public because of the sensationalist media then that needs to be addressed.

The reality is that as the media and political elite become more virtuous, the more people will associate themselves with the extremes of the political spectrum as the majority of discourse in Irish politics is driven, not by the people, but by the media and the frenzy of the day.

The problem is that politics is completely out of touch with the average person.

I don't recall any particular things about far right plants in Ireland. I do recall it occurring in the US but that was established as fact by intelligence agencies there and there were arrests of certain groups. And that's not saying blm folk weren't involved in causing issues etc.

So no, I think "both sides" is more just diverting from the fact that the far right has been recognised as a serious issue globally in the last few years.

numerous things are a " serious issue " globally , many of those things are thankfully not an issue in ireand

have some faith in irish people and stop thinking we are all just one irish times editorial away from goosenstepping down o connell st

I don't think there's currently an issue with a rise of a far left, I actually wouldn't favour a scenario where that happened, I'm largely centrist. I do think there's an issue with the far right globally and it has been identified to be an issue by intelligence agencies across the globe. I addressed your post but you just seem to have gone off on a rant on how you view me to be crazy rather than addressing the substance of my post.

the far left have over ten TD,s in the dail , dozens of local councillors , have friends in media , academia and dominate the NGO sector

yet you dont think theres " an issue with the rise of a far left "

your about as centrist as paul murphy

It's not about getting fired. If your employer sees your picture or you in a video even when not involved at something like that it's not a good look and could effect opportunities for advancement indirectly.

Some employers might even let you go. Depends on the circumstances and your job.

Best to stay away in my view.

Dublin has a pretty bad scrote problem and like flies on sh!t they'll attach themselves to any opportunity to make trouble. It's always been like that.

I find it odd that the usual left wing counter protest didn't occur. Where were they? They were conspicuously absent. Makes me wonder about the initial claims that there were people formerly associated with the left amongst the crowd.

    It's a face-palm moment for sure.

These people also think everyone is a reptilian for some reason. Even the people who talk about that whole reptilian conspiracy stuff like David Icke seem to reckon there's only a tiny number of them around. It was always an out there idea but these folks seem to think anyone who disagrees with them is an extra from V.

I don't know if you read the Sunday Times reporter who asked them about the RTE thing-apparently RTE have kidnapped 9000 kids this year and killed thme to provide "adrenochrome"* to keep their presenters young looking, and the bodies have been dumped under the new Children's hospital. When asked where did they get their info: "Facebook"

Such is the level of moron you are dealing with

How did anyone who went to that protest think it was a good idea ?

Even if you are anti- lockdown how in your right mind could you think a mass protest against it would do anything other than prolong that thing your are protesting against ,

Honesty one of the stupidest protests I can ever recall ,

Although I agree with you that protests will only prolong the lockdown there are considerations.
    * BLM marches was ok and even encouraged during the pandemic.
    * After a year of the lockdown destroying small businesses people are desperate and do desperate things.
    * We get to see that some people actually believe in shapeshifting lizards.

    Not the people attacking gardai.

As I mentioned earlier they are the least affected in the country. Their living standards (other than not being able to go to a betting shop, pub or whatever) hasn't changed one iota. Their income hasn't changed at all either.

Who are you replying to? I'm not saying this at all at least. Far right protests are pretty much always violent. As far left ones are. In fact they often make sure to have "counter" protests so they can beat the crap out of each other.

No rule saying I have to reply to anyone - just an observation on the first couple of pages, the last couple of pages and how conservative-leaning people tend to react to violent right-wing proests.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

They tend to react the way left leaning people do in relation to left wing protests. Both groups are a scourge, I assume you distance yourself from both?

If I wanted to try and minimise the chances of the public getting the impression that a lot of ordinary people/voters like them were getting sick and tired of the forever lockdown, I'd be claiming any protests were by extremists or some such group of 'others.'

Wouldn't want another of those water charges situations with people getting ideas above themselves. Baaaaaaaaaaaa.

    Ah here.
That's like saying an anti-police brutality protest is a bad idea because it will just give the police an opportunity to dish out more beatings.

What if the employer is anti Lockdown? Like the gym owner who lives by me. Plenty of small time employers are anti lockdown. Not saying they were on this march. Am saying the won’t care if employees were, if they kept out of the violence.

Good analogy. In fact I bet there’s a big crossover between the water charges and anti lockdown people.

No it's not at all ,

Lockdown is because the Virus had spread rapidly over Christmas due to gatherings ,

So lets protest against that lockdown by having a ……..Mass gathering ,

Come one man my 3 year old could figure out the issue

No & no. Its besides the point anyways other than you wanted to have a go at me no doubt.

How else do you suggest people get the government to take notice?
Lockdowns have been destroying people's livelihoods and putting some into crippling debt - should they just sit at home patiently until the government decides they can protest?

Yes your right the best option is to do something that can only make the thing your protesting against last longer & makes all the valid hardships you mention worse ,that without question is the best thing to do ..Bravo

The intelligent people who stayed at home are in fact doing more for the cause,

Has anyone been around the Portobello area of Dublin along the canal recently? It was black with hundreds of people socialising Saturday and Sunday.
