Youd see worse on a Halloween night in rough parts of Dublin. No ones getting custodial sentences over it though.

Are you saying he's going to be let off?

Ah here. Guy lights the firework and then runs towards the line of Gardai, pointing it directly at them before it goes off.

"He wasn't really firing at the Gardai, like".

As well as an assault (3/4 NFOAP) I guess he'll probably also be
charged with Affray. Which can carry a sentence of up to five years if heard in the
    circuit court.
He'll probably get a year in jail.

The so-called "protest" was a utter disgrace and I don't condone anything that happened there.

The only thing I and others are questioning is whether the thugs and yobs who gathered on Saturday constitute a "far-right extremist group," as is being claimed ... or whether they were just a mob of disgruntled troublemakers.

    I strongly suspect the latter.

There's a concerted effort in the government/media/NGO space to convince the public that Ireland has a major and growing problem with far-right extremism. I don't buy it. Outside of a handful of fringe figures, there is no meaningful "far right" in Ireland — but what does exist is an effort to portray anyone who raises concerns about the progressive leftist agenda as "the far right." It's an attempt to bully and censor people into silence.

As I said before, those behind this gathering knowingly invited this element to the demonstration. They are a strong part of the support for these people.

    It's one and the same.

He was a thug no doubt and there were right wingers at the protest.

It’s probably a mistake to call everybody who is anti lockdown far right.

I think, while futile, the protest at the weekend could provide some insight on plans for future events. A beard stroking Facebook tactician, much akin to Jan Zizka complete with eyepatch, might observe that a Spartan phalanx could be created using large placards which could be ushered to the front once the gardai draw their defensive lines. Once this is in place the outer edges could begin to press forward while the centre falls back in an act of feigned retreat. Once this process has begun it will slowly create a complete circle around the gardai, whereupon they can be sternly lectured regarding the connection between 5G and COVID-19, then released to propagate this doctrine through the ranks, ultimately causing the complete collapse of the new world order.

How do you know who invited whom to the demonstration? What's your evidence that this protest was masterminded by an alleged "far-right extremist group"? Can we actually name this group or any of the people who allegedly lead it?

It's not hard to get people onto the streets at this time, given the level of frustration that exists among the general public after almost a year of lockdown. Thousands participated in violent protests in Italy and the Netherlands — including many all-purpose troublemakers unaffiliated with any "-group" or "-wing." But here, protests are being held up as evidence of a growing far-right extremist movement in Ireland, which I think is nonsense.

Naw. That would paint every protest where the socialist workers party turned up as Trotskyite. And they turned up for the opening of an envelope.

I don’t see the point of this except self righteousness. And all it does is push people into the far right. Crying wolf etc. Wise old proverb.

I believe you were trying to make a point about bad faith arguments and guilt by association when you immediately followed up with this doozy:
    B
It's a 'guilt by association' tactic used by pseudo-intellectuals from the reactionary circuit. Oh you want universal healthcare? You're a Marxist and Marxism killed 100 million people ergo universal healthcare is bad.

    And so on.

Serious lack of self awareness. :o Perhaps limit your responses to what is posted as opposed what you want to believe is posted, that will see you right. Probably do a lot of others on here some good too. :)

There have been protests over an arrest of a rapper in Spain, Christ they don't hold back at the police over there, the sound is incredible.
It shows how peaceful this country is generally when the whole country is totally shocked because a grey tracksuit person shot a rocket at the police.

Which is an example of a bad faith argument well worn by the likes of Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro and gets regurgitated by their fanboys on boards.ie because they like to immerse themselves in the US culture war.

    Congratulations, you get my point.

I think that a movement needs to be set up to "Free The Grafton Street One". Marches to Dail and whatever prison he is locked up in need to be organised.

The second clip. Now that's a protest. That's how it's done.
