Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Smell from Shower Drain - Have Tried the 'chemical options'

    Hi All

There is a musty smell coming from the shower drain of the en suite - has been like this for months. We've tried to flush out the drain using off the shelf cleaners and the home remedies - baking soda & vinegar , baking soda and bleach. The ubend has water in it. Smell isn't always there but comes back almost daily. Am I looking at calling a plumber at this stage to rip out the drain?

    Anybody else have any suggestions?

    Cheers.

Have you cleaned out the sink drain too?

I have used the baking soda/ vinegar flush on the sink, but haven't cleaned it in the same manner as the shower drain. Didn't occur to me that this might be the issue - although there is zero smell from the sink drain and the U bend & sink was replaced only a few months ago but not because of any odour issue.

I had similar issue and I used drain cleaner followed by lots of buckets of water. Got loads of crap that was obviously stuck to the pipes come up the shower drain because of the volume of water flowing.

Not saying that’s what you have, but worth a shot.

it could be your hair trap not properly sealed in the shower - in many cases its replacable

Would that mean having to lift out the shower basin to replace it ?

I had a similar problem -- the bath was installed too low, its drain U-bend did not hold a lot of water. If the bath is not used for a while, the water evaporates and then the smell from the waste pipe can get into the bathroom. Fixed by making the U-bend sit a bit deeper.

We get it if it dries out .So my very easy solution is to pour a glass of water down every day if the shower is not used .
