Favourite Peanuts?

I love chomping through some peanuts as a snack, or at busy times as a meal in itself.

However, there's a huge quality difference between brands. What gives? Are there different varieties of peanut we eat, is it how they're roasted, is it the quality of the seasoning?

The Dunnes Stores dry roasted peanuts are like chewing bullets.

These Manhattan ones are quite good

The Lidl chili flavoured and honey flavoured ones are decent, good value ones

But the Lidl dry roasted ones are as bad as the Dunnes ones. I dunno, maybe it's the powder mix but the peanuts themselves taste poor.

These little beauties you can get in some bars, they're the finest a man can eat. Balsamic vinegar flavoured nuts. Unreal.

And on the topic of vinegary ones, of course KP Nuts are champs at this stuff, and these are a great nut.

As of course are the salted and dry roasted KP nuts, quality stuff, but expensive. They dont' come cheap.

The honey roast variety, which I've only gotten in a tub, but I believe are available in a packet, are another beauty.

    However, for me, the most enjoyable peanut could possibly be the Tesco own brand salt and vinegar flavoured;

So boards, tell me, what are your favourite peanut brand, flavour?

I chomped my way through half a bag of the Manhattan dry roasted last night. Top class peanuts. Tesco own brand are muck in my opinion, all salt and no flavour.

You should ask Crisp Guy to do a “tournament” of the best peanut.

Manhattan popcorn would probably win, though.

The Manhattan ones are too small.

The Mighty Quinn asking the important questions.

Agree about Manhattan - anaphylactic heroin. Another handful is never enough

KP salt and vinegar are my firm favourite! I haven’t tried Tesco’s S&V but will do next time I’m in.

My favourite treat on a Friday or Saturday night is a giant HB Cornetto and a bag of KP S&V peanuts poured into a bowl and dip the cornetto in to them before each bite. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Manhattan Salted Peanuts. I find dry roasted too, eh, dry. And any of this messing about with honey or lemon chili is just hipster nonsense.

No favorite. I'm nuts about them all

Manhattan are lovely. Definitely the nicest.
The lidl salted are quite nice but I can't buy big bags or I will eat the whole bag.

Not being an inverted snob here, but Dealz do a surprisingly good peanut.

    Fresh-tasting, crunchy and never over-salted.

Great value at €1.50 for a large bag that claims to contain approximately ten servings, so you'll eat the bag in two sittings.

Oh, and spoiler alert, there's even a terrible Christmas-cracker type joke on the pack:

''Two peanuts were walking down the road........''

    ''One was a salted''.

Who here remembers when the only Dry Roasted in pubs were Planters?

They're not in Ireland any more it seems. Recently sold by Kraft in US.

Manhattan giant bag of D R but - has anyone tried the big bag of Tesco salted mixed nuts? Peanuts in them are gritty with salt (yum) but the walnuts in them (also salted) are like little pieces of heaven hidden in a bag. You’ve never had anything like them before.

Supervalu own brand peanuts only cost a yoyo for 300g bag and they are ok for that price imo.

KP is clear winner all day for quality though.

The Walkers Sensations ones are an underrated gem but hard to find.

I've only ever seen them in Tesco on Baggot Street.

Peanuts are annoying. Roasted cashews with cracked black pepper are not annoying.

KP dry roasted or Lidl honey roasted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,602 ✭✭✭Funkfield

    Planters Dry Roasted.

There is nothing else like them.

A lot of the rest are decent in their own way, but honestly, when you really look at it, it's always been Planters.

Why are we fighting? C'mon together, comrades, brothers. We all like nuts. Except the crisps guy. So let's just enjoy nuts. I'm actually allergic to peanuts.

    Where are you getting Planters?

Haven't seen them in Ireland for years.

Manhattan's seems to be no 1 here.

It's a noun and a verb. But since I'm only 17 my teacher hasn't told me anymore about it.
