Court case lost. Judge backs Ravec decision.

He might appeal but costs might have to be paid if the ruling is upheld. A touted figure was £300k plus. I think the IIP case comes up in the summer. He stands a reasonable chance of getting that since he is now the son of a head of state.

The video is in the linked article for me anyway?

Good point about son of a leader - however, it’s the way he’s going about it I don’t like - I mean I don’t think the UK police are going to be negligent when it comes to Harry, his family and his UK visits - the fact that he wants and indeed needs public attention in order to keep the money rolling in is obvious so he’s always going to be a public figure and given his title, it’s more likely than not he’ll get special treatment when in UK- but it’s his sense of entitlement that bothers me.

He’s drawing too much attention to something that let’s face it, is critical from a security perspective, to remain a private matter.

But it’s another example of “I want my own way” - it will never get approved for him to “hire the police” but they will likely concede that his UK visits require an agreed policing approach- I’d doubt he’ll get foreign protection though

For those who made the football games comparison:

But lawyers for the Home Office said the type of protection under discussion, which could mean "specialist officers as bodyguards", was not the same as funding for extra policing for football matches.

"But lawyers for the Home Office said the type of protection under discussion, which could mean "specialist officers as bodyguards", was not the same as funding for extra policing for football matches.

A barrister for the Metropolitan Police argued that it would be unreasonable to expose officers to danger because of "payment of a fee by a private individual"."

Regarding the "near catastrophic chase", the NYPD have decided that no further investigation is warranted. Clearly they don't believe anything life endangering happened at all.

Imagine my surprise at hearing that.....who would have thunk it.

Even Starsky and Hutch didn’t drive that fast 😛

Agreed. He lost the case. May have another one to avoid costs. He will be cross examined in June I think so that will generate attention. Their argument amounts to saying that the phone hacking happened and the counter argument basically being no it didn’t (i.e. *wink wink* it actually did but prove it). With their star witness being a self-proclaimed professional liar then he may actually lose the case. The chase was a week ago and is now old news. It did them no favours. Meanwhile the PR is out in force with Meghan slated as being the first guest on Gayle King and Charles Barkleys new show on CBS called “King Charles”, she is “rumored” to be negotiating a Hollywood comeback for a $30 million fee and her polling indicates that she is returning to favour in America. Same old PR guff to stay relevant and in the headlines. Circling the drain.

Wow- I see a few articles alright online about her movie comeback and that King Charles show 😄

That’s mad going back into acting- I mean, if she can be successful, it’s easy money and good luck to her; in my view it’s better than the rubbish she’s trying to pedal and to get the public to swallow right now.

But, what a U turn if this comes off - and what about Harry? I guess there’s a house husband role for him if he wants it. But in all seriousness, we know that acting couples marriages are not known for their longevity- it’s a whole new world for Harry, let’s hope it’s a good one for him.

The home office just got someone killed anyway. The couple probably won’t want their security now, geez.

Neither Edward nor Anne have full time protection and only get it abroad when on a working trip. Andrew lost his after he was no longer a working royal. They were sons/daughters of the monarch at the time. Given that Harry is not a working royal and lives abroad I can't see him getting a positive outcome to the Ravec decision. I am not clear if he is looking to get it only when he is in the UK or if he is looking to get IPP status for overseas protection also. Either way its madness for him to think he is entitled to it.

I imagine the Duchess is indeed “deeply saddened” as reported there- I know she wasn’t in any way responsible but given it was her escort I’m sure she feels awful about the incident. Poor lady May she RIP.

She was hit whilst using a pedestrian crossing.

    Someone is going to prison.

Yeah we'll see if the UK balances the state/royal interests over the peasant. In the US if the secret service killed someone in such a manner we'd probably call it qualified immunity, without irony.

A desperately written article - H&M floating in/out of the RF cherry picking the gigs that “suit” then then flying off to LA for months at a time to star in Hollywood movies and hang out at award ceremonies?

A really bad idea - H&M would do very well out if it in fairness but the RF would be decimated by it and the papers would have a field day. Ain’t going to happen- it will be a slimmed down monarchy - they’re surviving without H&M now and will only get better once William gets crowned; they’ll never reach the heights of QE2 ever again but they’ll get by very nicely opening hospital wings and flowery gardens without H&M and are probably better off for doing so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,477 ✭✭✭valoren

    Agreed.

It is all ambassadorial and ceremonial and will plod along for a good while yet. The RF is there for the diplomatic and soft power representing UK PLC, administering their national thank you system (honours, garden parties, medals), fronting the military and all that entails, and for all the state level visiting and hosting. They love their pomp and ceremony and it, along with the RF, is part of the culture. Any extra time they have is for their charitable foundations, patronages and random engagements, the aggrandisement of others.

The point is that these roles don't allow much wiggle room for self interests i.e. wanting to do a book, podcasts etc but unable to because a new mens shed in Milton Keynes needs ribbon cutting. That kind of role isn't for everyone, can be stifling for ambitious people and it certainly wasn't for Harry and Meghan. They seemed more focused on having assigned staff retracting/correcting every piece of **** stirring from the media for their own aggrandisement (e.g. currently accepting awards as opposed to giving them out). As such they weren't suited for that kind of role and it was best all round that they left. What could have been dignified stand down with any and all grievances tackled in private the idea that they went in studs showing and burned their bridges of their own accord is on them. With them cosplaying as Royals (Four SUVs) and it coming out of their own pocket as well as the victimised act now spent and rapidly going the way of The "I didn't do it" Boy I can't see where they go from here. They are just another famous couple in a sea of other famous people. The family have distanced themselves to the point that even a memoir and a "near catastrophic" car chase doesn't even merit a reaction from his family. They must be fuming but seem to have collectively decided to plough on and are paying them no heed. If there are to be any marital problems or even a divorce soap opera then I reckon the omerta and non reactions will remain.

    What Hollywood comeback FFS?!

The last major film she starred in was a 30 second cameo in Horrible Bosses in 2011.

She's a tv actress who has spent the majority of her career in tv series and bad Hallmark type tv movies.

Hollywood comeback, you have to have left in the first place!! 😂😂😂

That article about Meaghans star on the rise, the 30 million dollar movie deal in the offing etc- do you think that will come to pass?

My view is, it’s one thing to be famous but for a blockbuster movie to justify a 30 mill spend on the lead actress, the actress needs to act out of her socks, the storyline has to be damn good and the expected return on investment needs to be solid- I just don’t see that happening - Meaghan wrote or spoke recently about good olde fashioned feel good rom com movies - I just don’t see the level of return with Meaghan leading a movie, especially not a rom com- she doesn’t have a sense of humour full stop - Princess Grace she’s certainly not and ironically Grace Kelly left the movies once married.

No one is giving 30 million for her to star in a movie, where the hell did that story crawl out of?

30 million is Leo money, he gets that because more often than not his movies are a commercial success.

Agree totally. She had one of a few supporting roles in Suits. None of them, not even the leads, have gone on to stardom after it ended. I thought the Harvey Spector guy woukd become a leading man like George Clooney but he hasnt been in anything of note. I was one of the few people who used to watch Suits and I thought it was a good show but it needed to end, they kept going far too long. There is no way she will be cast in a major movie - maybe Hallmark type straight to video or Made For TV movies but that is it. As for 30M Julia Roberts would struggle go get that up front. I just dont understand the hustle anymore. They have millions, if the Netflix, Spotify and book deal values are true. Just live and enjoy it. They could have a very comfortable life focusing on fund raising for their foundation and raising their kids, and visiting the royals once in a while in total luxery, accommodation at Buckingham palace for visits with grandpa for the kids, literally living the dream, away from working royal life - an LA version of Zara and Mike. Fools!

It is the same PR manifesting as wanting to be in a Marvel movie. It hasn't happened. She won't be commanding anything like that. I think the task ahead for WME is to promote Meghan as an Executive Producer but one who can bring the rest of the Netflix millions as the bait. A classic executive producer is akin to a Dragon or Shark from the Den or the Tank. It is someone like Spielberg or Cameron whose mere name attached to a project could attract investors. As an exec producer you are buying someone from Dragons Den and accessing their ideas, their clout and their networking contacts to make everyone money (e.g. this kind of movie needs this pacing so heres the name of a good editor for that, I saw this actress in a support role on Broadway she'd be perfect for the comic relief best friend here is her agents number etc.) I don't think Meghan has (or has won) such a level of clout. Rom Coms were mentioned and maybe a punt at returning to formulaic Matthew McConnaughy mid-00s type movies funded by the Netflix cash with Meghan getting a credit/bit parts is about the extent of it. Not theatrical releases but Netflix exclusives kind of thing. Using that money and backing a gifted writer/director or finding a bona fide star could prove fruitful but I'd see her involvement as an Exec.

A lot of pie in the sky so- pity, I would have loved to see her leading a flop movie😀

Not necessarily. If traffic was ruled by a police at the time and I think it was, so it overruled crossing.
