I do wonder how a back 3 of Carberry, keenan and Larmour would get on. Shades of RK and Nacewa

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

    It could still happen.

How long is left on Joey's Munster contract?

I wonder if there was an offer on the table, would he come home.

Edit: At the end of next season

I'd say he'd be up for it. Irfu would never allow it of course

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,586 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I can't see Baird as a 6! He was exposed by La Rochelle and was quite poor. He could improve with time. But, he doesn't have the nuts and bolts for it at the moment. I think he is still lacking the basics for lock also.

I reckon he's overhyped atm. But a very good prospect, who will come good soon enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

I'm not entirely sure if they'd be allowed to do that.

He's a free agent next summer, if Leinster offer a contract they can't not allow him to sign it. He's IQ.

Contrary to popular belief, he wasn't forced to sign for Munster.

Carberry has made it perfectly clear he wants to play 10. Munster will play him there, Leinster won’t. Nothing has changed there. So why would he come back?

I don't think there's a place for Carbery, be it either at 15 or 10.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭PMC83

He wasn't forced but theres no doubt pressure was put on. He was on OTB saying how much he loved Leinster and wanted to stay, then a few months later he was gone. Admittedly not the first player to turn on a dime, but I'd bet my house that it was suggested he go somewhere else for game time by Joe / the Irfu.

That said I'd love to see him back at Leinster, preferably as a 15. Serious battles between himself and Kennan for the jersey.

"We won't select you if you are not playing at 10 and Leinster won't play you at 10" is not forcing him to go anywhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭dudley72

Carbery will end up at 15 for Munster in the next 2 seasons

Very little prospect of him going anywhere until there's at least one viable (ie international) alternative OH at Munster.

Because it's sunnier in Dublin than it is in Limerick. Obviously.

St. Fechin's, great bunch of lads

Whispers on a Leinster FB group that Furlong is looking at a year at Racing 92

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,002 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

A year before the world cup? Sounds like made up nonsense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭PMC83

Yeah could well be, the lad reporting is says he heard it from a mate working in the branch.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,002 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

I would be surprised if the one year deal was anything other than banking on getting a bigger payout in a year. Playing this season for Leinster then leaving the following season for a year just doesn't make any logical sense. Also seems pretty early to have any idea of contracts for the 22-23 season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭PMC83

Yeah it all sounds a bit iffy, but stranger things have happened I guess.

Furlong is still playing for Ireland if he goes to Racing. Probably the only Irish player who could get away with it right now.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,002 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

I think it would be possible, but with Porter available I think it rules that out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

    No he's not.

If he want's to go, let him.

Great chance to build depth in the most important position on the field. Porter and O'Toole well able to cover.

He'll be pack for the World Cup

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,983 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

O'Toole is barely holding his own in the scrum at Pro Whatever level, he's a while off regular international action imo.

Absolutely no way the IRFU would pick anyone who is playing abroad. Not even Furlong.
