I know it says to pen the cows, and take the samples off the floor afterwards, but has anyone tried getting the samples outside? Surely if you went out while the cows are lying down, you'd get enough fresh samples after they get up?

Ya that's what I did Sunday morning, collected as they stood up.
Dropped them off and results yesterday. Positive for rumen fluke.
Had forgotten that they don't give individual result for each sample. May not have been as careful collecting if I remembered that.
Don't know why we don't have to just submit one larger combined sample.
Suppose I'll have them on the zanil at the weekend.

Did them in the field I should have said

That's how i did it last year and how ill do it this year. Once they stand, they nearly always go so just scoop it up

Do you have to fill in the application form on the mybeeb website to rent a scales, or can you just go into the co-op and arrange it there?

I’ve always just rang the local coop and arranged it there, they have some access to the Icbf database and your booking will show up on your Icbf account.

Oldcastle were running akind of a deal if you had the samples in before September 1st it was €40 then €50 from then until the end of the scheme, it was to try & handle the rush they had at the end last year.

Yea, I myself got it at 40 in Oldcastle before month end a few days ago, poster above must have got it a 35 few months ago.

That equine place seems keen compared to Oldcastle.

I did a bit of searching the other night. I found this place that at €35. The bit I liked is that you can order the kit online...

Got results back for dung samples.

Says rumen fluke egg seen. No liver fluke eggs seen.

Would I need to take any action on this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭Bellview

used oldcastle - i was really impressed with how fast they returned the results.. I posted on Mon.. had results by email on wed pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

Ye dropped in the samples into Oldcastle on a Tuesday evening and had the results back on the Friday. which was perfect as I was moving the cows through the yard on the Saturday and was able to dose them for fluke.

We use Irish equine center. Find them very helpful to deal with

Just asked the father he said they where around 25 euro, so I'd say 28 as previously posted,👍

Do calves have to be a certain age before they are weighed , cannot find a minimum age online .

Thanks, I think you are correct, just couldn’t see it written down.

No. Any age to get paid.

only those aged 100-300 days are included in the report.

but you will be paid for all.

I have weighted calves two weekS old and been paid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭High bike

Same as that I weighed young calves last year and got paid too, have a few more this year. There was nothing about a minimum age on the original document

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,366 ✭✭✭Tomjim

Anyone know where I can see the weight of the cow from last year's return

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,320 ✭✭✭tanko

If you’re on ICBF, go into view profiles then beef eurostar, click on the cows tag number, then click on weight, this will show the weight every time she was weighed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,896 ✭✭✭Lime Tree Farm

Icbf, login, view profiles, basic herd, tag number, then select weight tab.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 690 ✭✭✭ABitofsense

Weighed again today as I had to dose all. I like the data & weighed the day I started creep feeding on 1st August. I was interested in seeing if there is much of a change and surprised how big of a gain is actually achieved in majority of the calves.

    Hi

I found out last week I never got paid for beep last year as my advisor did not sign me up as he was asked.

I did the weights and dung samples

I rang the dept and told them I had all the actions completed

So they said to hand write a letter stating my case.

Has anyone else ever done this or am I wasting my time. I'm down around 1800 e?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,131 ✭✭✭minerleague

Nothing to lose, get advisor to add a letter stating they were at fault. They would have told you straight out if you had no chance, try and get a name of who you are dealing with in Dept too if you can

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,896 ✭✭✭Lime Tree Farm

Of course you should write stating the oversight. If you were able to submit the weights to the ICBF online dedicated form, it should strengthen your claim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 499 ✭✭joe35

Also if your advisor admitted a mistake they would be liable.

Teagasc have insurance for these sort of mistakes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

Did you check with your advisor if you are signed up for the coming year? Just encase if you weren't signed up for 2021 then you might not be eligible for 2022.

ive always clicked meal feeding option but just rethinking it before I submit. What’s involved in the vaccination program? What product do ye use and when are they done? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,320 ✭✭✭tanko

I’ve been vaccinating for about ten years after having a bad pneumonia outbreak when very still foggy weather came just after the calves were weaned, used to use Rispoval 3 but have used Boviplast the last few years. Two shots four weeks apart, the second shot a month or so before weaning. I think it’s a great job, a neighbour of mine got a bad outbreak last Autumn after weaning and is going to vaccinate from now on, between getting a vet out three times and the high cost of the medicines used to treat pneumonia, what he spent would vaccinate his calves for several years. I think two shots of Boviplast works out about €12/calf.

Just make sure whatever vaccine you use qualifies for payment under the BEEP scheme, not all do if i remember right.

Selected the option for Vaccinations this year as I recently had a weanling diagnosed with Chronic Pneumonia. Id always be giving a bit of meal anyway, I've never done the vaccinations before and after this one, I decided that it might be well worth the effort to do it.
