Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bernese dog, Breeding.

    Hi,

I have a Bernese mountain dog, he is great! He has one of the best temperament I’ve ever seen, I have a 3 year old and he is brilliant with him. Never jumps up on him, knocks him, nibbles etc... just walks beside him and minds him.

My mom has a goldie who has had a mini stroke and is very close to the end.
I want to give her a pup from my Bernese (cause he is claim which will suit there lifestyle and the cost of a puppy is extortionists these days) and I want the new pup to learn off the goldie while he is around.

Where do I start to find a partner my Bernese? Is there anything I need to watch out for.

    Thanks for any advice

Irish kennel club would be a good start. Would love a bernese myself - lovely dogs.

You don't find a partner. The owners of the bitches come to find you. To be honest any Reputable Breeder is going to go to a health tested, conformation graded & proven dog. Pet dogs are not in demand, only by those out to make money.

His temperament sounds like a typical Bernese which is very good, maybe consider getting him graded by an FCI group 2 judge. Both him & the bitch would also need breed specific health testing - hips, eyes, heart, Willebrands disease. The breed Club can give you the full details.

Stud dog breeding is also not for the faint hearted! Not as straight forward as putting 2 dogs together

Knine says it perfectly. There are reasons why the some of the best dogs are only from litters produced every few years. It's not a simple process if you want to do the breed justice.
