Well, it’s probably going down to the last game of the season, our shocking goal difference might be our undoing in the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,541 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Didn't expect watford to hold out, wasn't disappointed. Not expecting Chelsea to do anything tomorrow either.

As for today's lineup.. looks a shocker

Cooper out, just looking for a good showing today, just don’t embarrassed

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,947 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

Expecting nothing from today, only hope is Everton don't pick up anything tomorrow, looks like it will go to the Brentford match, gulp!

Koch and Struijk CBs? Firpo LB and Ayling RB? Lining up 5-4-1.

simple fcking pass is all needed there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

Rodrigo showing why he isn't a PL level striker

    No Cooper is massive blow.

What's interesting is he chose to bring in a midfielder and change Dallas instead of doing a straight swap with Llorente

Firpo booked. May make a sub now

firpo what a signing he has been, just because a lad comes from barca means nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

Ahhh well, dumb fouls and usual weak defending on set pieces

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭newhouse87

    can relax now, games over.

Actually content with the performance against City so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭newhouse87

Amazing the blindness Tierney develops when it suits him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

Jesus Christ Ayling, keep the stuttering to when you talk

its a joke (I had a bad stutter when I was young)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

That looks like an ACL for Dallas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

I'd actually like James on for Rodrigo. Put him right up top, ears they won't have a high line

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,947 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

I still don't expect anything from the game but in fairness that's a decent performance. Koch looks like a different player at CB, he has been impressive.

The injury to Dallas looks bad, he looked in real pain.

Big collision there, that's a nasty one for Dallas. Just came off worse really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

City haven’t had to get out of 3rd gear really, we give up a soft goal and having Rodrigo up front on his own like that doesn’t work, he doesn’t have the pace to really threaten

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,043 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

Bad one for Dallas, gone for the run in, by the looks of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

I'd say we won't see him back until about November.

    Llorente really isn't trusted.

    Phillips has been quiet.

Rodrigo should be sold in the summer.

    Ref is giving us nothing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭newhouse87

rodrigo and firpo both shocking today, didn't think id be syaing it but bring on james, his touch is poor but he might stretch city.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

Ah well. That's pretty embarrassing. Struijk isn't strong enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

Wow, I really just don’t get how bad we are at set pieces

strujt lacks aggression, a lot of blame to go around, flood gates are open

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,043 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

    Brilliant, another set piece.

    struijk ball watching as usual

    He's already on!!!

Today hasn't been awful, but guess not getting a tonking was a positive

This is going pretty much as I expected. Arsenal, for some mad reason, is the that I fancy us to get something from. I can see us not being in the bottom 3 until the last game of the season.

How many goals have we conceded from open play since Marsch took over?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭newhouse87

Kalvin still getting up to speed from his absence.

I would be hopefully of picking up a point from one of the next 2 if we set play like this.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,043 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

Back to Micky Mouse defending again. Marsch not handling the pressure well, booked now, and it looked like he was effing and blinding the lineman in the first half.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,025 Mod ✭✭✭✭GoldFour4

Card was for the assistant they said but that the manager has to take it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,025 Mod ✭✭✭✭GoldFour4

    Poor from Ayling there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭Hijpo

Concentration and shape is gone now.

ah well, nobody expected anything from this so as long as Everton lose tomorrow, we wont lose the plot just yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,986 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

At least Grealish didn't score. Small mercies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

They are the best team in Europe, no shame losing tbh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭stryker mcqueen

unfortunately this poxy system makes kalvin redundant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,076 ✭✭✭✭event

That does him a disservice imo. He can adapt. He plays very well for England. He was still our best passer but at times didn't go looking for the ball

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,043 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

I really don’t understand the narrow approach that Marsch favours. We have 3 wingers and another on the bench (until Summerville injury), yet force the play into a small space where everyone is on top of each other. See the havoc Raph caused when he cut in from the wing and was stopped by a last ditch block. First time half the team looked exhausted before the end. City at 2-0 were the same as Liverpool at 3-0 - let us play a bit and then start carving us apart at wll. I’m not sure what Struijk could have done for the Ake goal, in fairness it was a great finish.

Second best - maybe the deepest squad though, no KDB or BS for most of the night, but not likeable overall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭Hijpo

I think forming a team works both ways. Not only does a player need to be receptive to coaching but the coach also needs to be able to adapt his system to the strengths he sees in his players. Obviously, like the players adapting to the system, it takes time for the coach to recognise their strengths.

That could have been 4-0 in the first half under Bielsa. I liked how we played today, we could have had one or two. The club and team are under pressure in tandem with the system still needing a bit of polishing, it shows. In saying that, I think if Marsch says we need a performance like that for the next four games it would be good enough to take points off Arsenal, Brighton and Brentford, maybe draw with Chelsea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

It would be crushing to get relegated, I don’t think we are one of the 3 worst teams in the league but that won’t count for anything if we can’t pick up points.

I was convinced Burnley would go down but they got rejuvenated and got momentum.

I think this Everton team is similar to the Leeds situation all this years ago, it’s like they just assume they can’t go down but if they lose tomorrow they are in serious trouble

If Everton beat Chelsea tomorrow, we are in the crap.

The damage was done against Villa, Everton, Newcastle and Southampton.
