Family member with chronic mental health issues

    Hey,

I’m posting here to see if there’s anyone in a similar position to me that could offer some advice or guidance. Even book recommendations would be welcomed at this point.

A close family member has had ongoing, poorly controlled bipolar affective disorder for 15 years. Each time they’ve relapsed their baseline progressively gets worse, and now they’re a completely different person to who they were a decade ago. The psychiatric team are now coining it resistant, and considering clozapine which makes myself and the rest of our family quite anxious.

I’m wondering has anyone had a similar experience. I’m usually able to manage quite well during the relapses, and can put it to one side. However I’m finding this time much tougher than others especially now it’s officially resistant.

    Thanks in advance

Why are you and your family anxious about Clozapine? I know two people who take it and it has made a tremendous difference to their lives. Only caution is that regular blood tests are required to check that white blood cells aren't affected.
They are not bipolar though, they have other issues.

If your family member is unwell then Clozapine is worth a shot to see if it helps.
