Ok but will it be questioned how mercedes got away with breaking the limits for the whole race?

    Nah.

    Max gained a position.

The Dutch lad & his team choked.

Couldn’t have asked for more from the first race really. Hope this battle continues for the year

I wonder will redbull question it,

Max wanted to try build a lead and take a penalty for the overtake.

    Simply epic, hope it continues!

That was close - great drive by Lewis. Hopefully this isn't just first race jitters by Mercedes and it is this close for the rest of the season.

Awesome by Lewis. Showing everyone why he is the GOAT. Wonder what the Lewis haters will say now?

He wasn't even close to being near the track limits. He looked a full car width off it

Don't see how they could appeal it

First race I’ve watched start to finish in about 20 years. Been a convert again from watching F1 drive to survive on Netflix. Fantastic stuff today. Hope it’s the start of a great battle between Max and Lewis this year.

Bit more patience from Max would have surely seen him take the lead on the straight the next lap. Great race from loads of drivers. Hamilton showing his class. Max unlucky. Excited to see how Perez does for the rest of the year to make the constructors a fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭McFly85

Fair play to Mercedes & Hamilton, was a class race. But they should have been called about going wide on turn 4 far earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Gaoth Laidir

At least Bottas got the fastest lap despite that utter fiasco by the pit crew again (never seems to happen to Lewis).

How much of an overall advantage did Lewis gain in the earlier part of the race by, as he admitted himself, consistently going off the track? He got away with it again.

Fair play to Tsunoda. One to watch for the future.

Max shat the bed with that move

Great race! Fair play to Hamilton. Max should have passed him at the end of the first straight instead.

Good race and but red bull left that one behind, impressive stuff from perez and norris with a solid drive too.

Atleast it looks like red bull have plenty to challenge Mercedes with this year.

Horner questions everything. Don’t see there being an issue though as they were told about it during the race and then they stopped.

If it was the other way around Hamilton would have made a clean pass and won the race. Verstappen is quality but still a bit to learn. More composure needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 937 ✭✭✭mun1

Once again, Hamilton getting the lucky/ marginal calls with stewards today . Some things never change .

He wasn’t saying there is no track limits when verstappen overtook him .

That's terrible for Max, abiding by the rules all race. And as it was said earlier, Lewis cheating until he was told to stop. That's racing!

The excuses on this forum everytime he wins. "Oh he is in the best car, he gets special treatment, Max in the same car would destroy him blah blah". RB have a very good car this year maybe a slight advantage on merc. 10 lap older tires and still Max couldnt beat him. So whats the excuses now guys?

Ha, big projection of Mazepin binning it behind Hamilton.

He cheated during the race , maybe ? (Turn 4 which gives good car position off the bend )

Nobody's doubting his ability, but he does get his fair share of the luck and he cheated today and got away with it. No way in hell any driver was not aware of track limits on any part of the circuit.

We hate Lewis because he's a complete and utter twat.

It’s really hard to take F1 seriously as a sport when there’s a different set of rules for Mercedes and everyone else.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,361 ✭✭✭BrentMused

Superb drive from Hamilton and a clinic in tyre management as always, but lack of patience really cost Max there.

He inevitably would have caught Lewis on the straight at the end of that lap if he had more patience.

Fantastic races from Norris, Leclerc and Tsunoda especially but my driver of the day is Perez.

Hopefully he will get some luck going forward and that we get plenty of opportunities to see what he can really do in that car.

That was a fantastic race. The battles throughout were really good. Both Max and Lewis were on another planet on the last 10 laps of the race. Throughly enjoyable first race of the season.

Absolutely brilliant race by lewis. I watches it with friends who had him wrote off on grounds his hards wouldn't hold to a 2 stop strategy.

Once again showing he is the Greatest of all time.

Loads of people doubt his ability.

For anyone to say ‘nobody doubts his ability’ is chatting complete and utter nonsense. Every race there is some excuse that undermines his ability and it’s because people think he’s a complete and utter twat.

‘Cheated today and got away with it’. Exactly my point.

That was clearly Horner’s classic mind games. The if they won’t call it well do it too so. And it worked. Quickly after all of them were told to stop so it worked.

Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull still miles ahead. Remember Bottas had a disaster of a pitstop and still had enough of a gap to Norris in 4th to put in a stop for softs to go after the fastest lap point.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

He gave the position back immediately.

This was a long time before the overtake.

He gave the position back immediately.

He was referring to both drivers exceeding track limits at turn four throughout the race I think.

and then race control put an end to it. Hamilton may well have gained 3-4 seconds over Max before Max pitted meaning he has more to make up after, leaving fewer laps to attempt the overtake.

Quite simple. Every breach of track limits = 1 second stationary prior to a pit stop. [exclude lap 1]
