Increasing cos the schools went back most likely.

Yep, pretty much. Schools open: family/private household outbreaks shoot up! Schools close: family/private household outbreaks drastically reduce! Rinse, repeat.

Not good news - one hospital failing :

I love how they're able to list out outbreaks in household, work, funeral etc settings, but when it comes to schools it's all "ums" and "ahs" from Glynn.

Covid did a great job of completely eliminating patients on trolleys which makes no sense at all if those on the trolleys needed to be in hospital in the first place.

George Lee is doing his best at doom mongering and Tony is having to put the dampeners on his negativity.

Maybe if GPs actually started seeing patients again instead of telephone consultations, people wouldn’t be getting misdiagnosed or putting things off until it’s too late and they have to go to A&E. All GPs have been vaccinated by now, what are they waiting for?

Wow. 4.8% of people arriving from India into the UK between 25 March and 7 April tested positive.

All had negative PCR negative test before departure.

I hope no flights to Ireland from India or mandatory hotel quarantine at least

My GP has seen us a few times in person . We had no problem seeing him with an appointment

RIP to the hundreds of other people in Ireland who died today.

Yes RIP all who died today

A sentence which is unusual in itself.

Really trying to stress the point that numbers of transmission will have to be looked at different as more people are vaccinated. Wonder will any of them clip a video of him saying that

Has he ever set out the metrics for his classic "where we need to be".

I really don't know the f is going on in Donegal. Back in September the outbreak started in Derry/Strabane and spread in to Donegal. Since late January its been much lower in the North yet Donegal has remained at the top or near the top of the incidence table throughout. Could it be a different variant? Its such a rural county its just mad.

back to negative news cycles. the positivity didn't last long. so much for the summer.

When schools close for the summer, numbers will dramatically reduce. Just hope the government can quickly adapt at that point then and some semblance of a summer can then be saved.

I do detect a level of glee in some posters when they think they can link outbreaks to schools.

Was their cases in Tipperary and Limerick recent enough linked to schools, apologies if wrong

But our betters say that schools have no impact on numbers, its all household contact :D

    No they don't.

Schools opening is a great thing for the future of our country.

ICU numbers and hospitalisations are down. That's all that matters.

Covid isn't the only show in town.

    I much preferred Ronan Glynn.

At least he would try to answer the question even if he was a bit cautious.

It took of in Derry first for a few weeks before it did in donegal back in September. My point is it has remained high in donegal throughout even when derry was very low.

No issues seeing any of the many doctors in our town. Get a new GP.

Very strange that Donegal hasn't once been included in the walk in test centres that have opened up in other areas with high numbers. Plainly being ignored, other rural counties have had before anyone uses that as an excuse.

Data the world over shows that pretty much the biggest thing that you can do to reduce the R number is close schools. The reason that we've been keeping pretty much everything locked down is so that we can maintain the schools without becoming overwhelmed across the board. That's the trade off, one the government are very much aware of and very much pushing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,134 ✭✭✭caveat emptor

Apparently , according to Philip Nolan the recent rise will be transient because people will see the increased cases and say (woah take it easy there) and dial down their contacts which will precipitate a decrease in cases.

And it’s damn the right thing to do, children need to be educated nobody ever says that the schools are completely free of the virus, but this after healthcare is the most important part of society.

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer has said there "are reasons for real hope" that Ireland "can confidently move to a point" where an easing of restrictions can be recommended to Government.

However, Dr Holohan said: "We are not yet where we need to be."

Dr Holohan said NPHET is " a little concerned" about data of recent days, and he said this data will "be observed more closely in the coming days before we can be satisfied that we have arrived at a point where we can advise Government on any easing of restrictions."
