My wife filled out the vaccine on line on Monday for the AZ jab and heard nothing since, her Sister and friend filled out theirs the same day and have already got vaccinated in Galway, any place we can contact to see what the hold up is.

Have a quick look there at the Independent and see who the journalist is and it'll be no surprise to you.

The very same one who's constantly trying to get a sound bite out of the media briefings.

Absolute gutter journalism from the Independent but would expect nothing less.

Of course cases will rise and maybe even significantly as we open up more fully to protect the economy. The difference being that many of the vulnerable are vaccinated. Cool, level heads required to not overreact to rising cases.

I had a chuckle at the CMO’s response to International travel saying the Green Cert will be given ‘consideration’. Sorry mate, it’s an EU law and the EU will give consideration to any request you make not to follow it.

According to the Telegraph, the pandemic is over in Britain, with the disease at manageable endemic levels.

Are they all the same age etc ?

There's a few factors at play. My father is 65 and we signed up on Monday but we know it'll be a week or two maybe a little more before he heads for an appointment purely because there's a few age groups ahead of him.

Alot is down to the MVC and the demographic of the area too.

They might have more 68 year olds than 65 year olds for example so will take a little longer to do the 68 year olds. Whereas the next centre could have more 65 year olds so they'll get to that group quicker.

You can contact HSE Live also but it's only been a few days

Most countries approach/aim was to avoid it.

Our infection rate has significantly reduced and from that we have hospital numbers at a very manageable level. It all puts us in a very good position as vaccines ramp up in May and June

We've been endlessly hearing about these ramps up that never really come to fruition since last January now at this stage.

There's quite a number of people doing pretty well from lockdown and would happily let lockdown continue. That's what you're up against.

We have ramped up, now at about 150K shots a week. What's stopping us is supplies and the likes of AZ barely delivering any. April is only the start of it so hold onto that complaint until we get to the end of May!

And don't forget a slow, unnecessary body in the form of NIAC. They went against EMA advise on AZ and are dragging their feet on J&J while shots sits in storage unused. We should disband NIAC and take EMA advice.

We have destroyed our economy and many livelihoods over the last 14 months due to the circulation of a very dangerous virus. Yet, a 1 in 250,000 chance of developing a clot and 1 in 1,000,000 chance of death are considered enough to restrict the rollout of a vaccine which has shown a greater than 95% efficacy.

The country is back on a knife-edge as a sharp increase in Covid infections raised fears of a cautious exit from lockdown.

These people have a lot to answer for. No responsibility no ethos just gimme scary headlines - show me the money. Some might actually call it 'fake news'. The mainstream media are driving this madness with rte and independent at the fore front. I'm so sick of this sh1t.

We've changed from being one of the best in the EU in terms of the vaccine rollout to being well down that list now. That is the reality.

Actually all the EMA has said is that benefits outweigh the risks but they have left it up to local bodies to determine how to use them according to their needs and assessment. AZ is its own disaster and we only have 14K J&J rising to 40K by the end of next week.

The media is laughable at this stage.
Surprised they have any hyperbole left in them.
Articles like this are hysterical, and shouldn't see the light of day.
The fact of the matter is that the extra "cases" are just extra positive tests, and unlikely to materialize into anything more than flu-like symptoms.
One would hope that vulnerable people at this stage will be vaccinated or taking good precautions to protect themselves.

Newsflash: teenagers get the flu smh

By the time we're reopening in any meaningful way we will be reopening less to protect the economy and more to salvage what remains of a lot of economic sectors.

Well they had lots sitting in fridges doing nothing, for quite a while. They've just caught up and the collective picture is a lot better now.

You may want to research your figures. Updated UK data puts the risk of those dangerous clots at 1 in 125,000 chance, with some EU counties having seeing a higher incidence rate based on a lower age group vaccinated with AZ.

    100% agree.
We are way past damage control at this stage.
The damage is done, much of it irreversible.

To add a positive - ICU is under control and hospital numbers are way down.

If the media (and public in general) paid more attention to the swabs they would see yesterday's case numbers are nothing to be worried about.
As I said yesterday, we have to accept numbers will stagnate or rise when we open up sections of society. Hospital numbers are declining, vaccinations are increasing, thats all that matters.

Edit: And also to add, they need to get rid of the 5 day average nonsense, sun-thurs will be much lower compared to tues-sat due to reduced testing and gp referrals at the weekend. It leads to big panic on certain days because the 5 day average has increased.

To reach their 80% target, we'll need to double the daily average until the end of June. That's close to 1% population sustained per day over 2+ months. I think Israel would be the only country that has managed that. Personally I can't see that happening, but would obviously love to be proved wrong!

They've caught up alright and completely passed us out now at this stage. Meanwhile, we are once again left sitting around waiting for NIAC to once again spend a week or two coming to a decision on something.

They said probably next week and we have very little J&J supply as it stands.

The media are aware of that, but choose to frighten people who are not, it sells, gets more clicks than good news.

The delay is irritating but in practical terms it makes little difference. We've only got 14k doses of J&J in fridges and the delayed decision won't be holding up further deliveries.

The risk of venous thromboembolism among healthy individuals for a flight of more than four hours is 1 in 6000......

80% of adult population. We're at about 33% already. So by my maths we have about 1.7m to do over 68 days, which is about 25k/day.

That's only 0.5% total population per day, although that doesn't factor in second doses.

    I welcome maths checking!

Thats only 50k per day. Easily achieved mid 30s on a number of days with only a small portion of the MVC's in operation. We have the capacity, just need the supplies

It's from a new study by Oxford, the Office of National Statistics, and the Department of Health. 95% of over 50s in England have had the first dose at least, so its having desired effect
