I'm sure things like dysentery and typhoid are still a problem there.

    Chalk and cheese.
That was one of the reasons it was initially speculated that India had so few cases - that the people there might have better immune systems. Seemingly not good enough :(

This is the current roadmap for our northern friends on the island.

    23 April
Close contact services, such as hairdressers and barbers, can reopen.
    Outdoors visitor attractions reopen.
Driving lessons can resume. Theory and practical driving tests resume.
Outdoor competitive sport will be allowed with numbers not exceeding 100. No spectators allowed.
Equine assisted learning and therapy can take place outdoors and indoors, limited to 30 people.

    30 April
All remaining non-essential retail to reopen.
Self-contained tourist accommodation, such as caravans and rented holiday homes, can operate.
Licensed and unlicensed premises can serve customers in outdoors settings in groups of six from no more than two householders.
Removal of curfews on takeaways and off licenses.
    Reopening of gyms.
Limit on outdoor gatherings in domestic gardens increased to 15 people from no more than three households.

    24 May (indicative date)
Licensed and unlicensed premises can operate indoors.
    Rest of tourist accommodation.
    Domestic gathering indoors.
    Indoors visitor attractions reopen.
Return of indoor group exercise, with numbers limited to suit the size of venue.

    Its great isn't it?

And they're way a head with the rate of vaccinations - hence their reopening is happening before us.

25% done with the Vaccine rollout about to ramp up, it does give you some confidence we might get out this summer.

Anything useful to contribute or just trying to win pointless post of the day?

Rubbish, don't misrepresent the figures. 18.8% of population have received first dose, only 7.7% are fully vaccinated.

Your 18.8 % includes people under 16 who don't get vaccines currently so why include them in the figure.?

If we take those out we're closer to 25%.

Yes, or perhaps it’s just that some people like to socialise and enjoy a nice meal out followed by a jar with good company? Not everybody has been convinced that living like we currently do is acceptable.

I understand the need to socialise but you don't need alcohol to socialise or enjoy yourself.

Please do accept my apologies. I forgot that showing any positivity towards others or not being mad that other countries are ahead of is allowed here ...

True I think this was of yesterday...

1.3 million doses have been administered to date, with 24.5% of the eligible population receiving one dose and 10% of the population fully vaccinated.

25% of adults have now received the first dose. The lockdown should therefore be eased faster than has been proposed.

Vaccines are about to ramp up, things are going to improve sooner rather than later. All these people looking to open up and take chances are careless and need to understand that it's only a couple of more months.
What's frightening is the amount of people that keep mentioning pubs opening. I think it suggests we have lots of people in this country with untreated mental health issues, obviously untreated addiction too.

Four months ago you announced the end of the lockdowns, that ivermectin was the answer and you would be in no rush to take a vaccine. Are you still antivax for yourself but want to maintain the lockdown till everyone else has it?

Wasn't wide spread use of ivermectin in India also the reason why they cases were so low? Guess that didn't work out, unfortunately.

And you missed the comment just above the one you quoted that was related to commenting Northern Ireland's roadmap.

But no worries, your trolling is not that nuanced. So I wouldn't expect you to get the full picture.

Now I'll allow you to have the last comment pet, so we can move on.

The docks packed tonight in Cork. Queues for takeaway pints out of Goldbergs and the Idle Hour are both really long.

Lovely night. Bit chilly and windy but there was a great buzz and it was very safe. Kinda tipsy myself ðŸ˜

Update: I'm feeling seedy today. Can't drink soup. Had only two pints.

Sorry for the off topic post :P

So we're just going to wing it? Even world leaders in vaccination such as Isreal didn’t try that stunt.

Little point in throwing out all the work done to date for a whim is there?

Listening to Newstalk earlier and the news headline was "Record number of people vaccinated in one day! 41000 people vaccinated yesterday!"

Sounds good. Then you remember that in January the UK were able to do half a million vaccines a day and realise that as usual it's just paddy patting himself on the back for doing nothing special.

Just imagine where we could be if we had competent leadership.

41K here would be comparable to 500K in the UK.

I drink from time to time maybe once a year. Used to drink loads and wasted years of my life spending the first three days of the working week recovering from a full weekend on the beer.
    It's a stupid existence.
I'm always in the midst of the fun when I'm out, don't need alcohol to do that.

Who knows what could happen if we tried stunts like letting people collect stuff in shops or wing it by letting people meet in their gardens. We would be like India inside a week without a doubt

That and a theory of having reached supposed herd immunity. And were ahead with vaccinations

    511 swabs on 17327 tests.

    2.95%

I think they might build a backlog for this weeks restriction announcement :/

Hopefully the majority of cases in in the area's that will implement walk in testing. That seemed to help the situation in Offaly. The incidence rate has declined pretty sharply over the last two weeks.
