    waste of time

Yeah footpaths around parks in Dublin are coated in dog**** daily. All you need is a small minority of people to think it's their constitutional right to let their dog **** where it wants.

I know it's a Monday and could be under reporting after the weekend but Israel reporting only 60 cases today and 0 deaths

Good in the UK too. And people have been out and about (officially) for a good couple of weeks now. And it was busy enough, unofficially, before that. Plus the surge testing in some areas with a supposed more transmissible SA variant

Starting to feel anxious ahead of the announcement on Thursday/Friday now. About two weeks ago I was reasonably positive and it sounded like we would get a proper road map outlining the reopening of society, but in the past few days it has started to sound more pessimistic and with the return of Tony I really fear the worst. The summer is important, people are sick of moving goalposts and I think a lot of us have maybe thought 'well at least we will get a summer'.

The government and NPHET are so badly lacking someone who just understands the behaviour of your average Joe. Over the last week I've gone to Howth, Killiney, Sandymount and the canal - all thronged with people enjoying themselves and rightly so. It doesn't make sense to keep outdoor hospitality closed. People are finding their own ways of doing things outdoors without any of the economic benefits and businesses who have been closed for 6 months are losing out big time. Throw in the issues with rubbish and people pissing everywhere, why don't they open outdoors soon? It is ridiculous.

If this summer is taken from us it will be a really sad time to be Irish. What makes us so different from the rest of the world?

Our woeful health service coupled with a spineless government handing over all covid related decision making to a body mainly made up of people who've overseen said health service for decades.

I know it's small, but seeing the kids on the news delighted to be back to sports and dancing classes put a big smile in my face.

Anyone else getting annoyed with RTE showing kids returning to training etc.Obviusly its good to see but hailing it like a great triumph. I mean adults still cant do much as it is or play Sport at all. If it was fully open I'd understand but its just training

    https://www.thejournal.ie/coronavirus-latest-figures-26-april-5420369-Apr2021/

    +437 new cases
    +1 death
Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer said: “As a country, we have now given a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 25% of eligible adults. In order to protect the vital work of the vaccination programme in offering us all protection from COVID-19, it is important we continue to remain vigilant and careful. Right now, we need to protect the progress we have made together.

“While we should remain cautious, we can also be cautiously optimistic. Our vaccination programme, alongside the continued commendable adherence of the vast majority of people in Ireland to the public health advice, are the key to exiting this pandemic in the coming months. However, doing things like mixing indoors when disease is still circulating at a high level puts our progress at risk. Please continue to act in the best interests of one another and be safe when socialising.”

Golf, tennis etc are back too.

If they didn't show it we've have the complaints that RTE only show the negative news.

    You can't please everybody.

I just get annoyed with rte showing children on the news full stop. They're not cute, they're not interesting and it's not news.

Not trying to be smart but what's the etc? All I see is outdoor sports facilities reopen, such as pitches, golf courses and tennis courts.

You can get apps for your phone that allow you to only show the news items you want to see.

I think most won't be happy until nephet recommend that the government open the pubs. Down with dog dirt etc. Is DNA dog dirt testing a bridge too far? Doesn't it make kids blind?

All age groups should be permitted to play. I'm envious of them tbh

Only annoyance is they should have returned to training at least a month ago and all adults should be back in training now.

No great triumph, it's such a low risk activity to get up and running.

    Well, soccer pitches, hockey pitches....

Pedantic much? The point is there is more open for sport than underage training; which was the point of the post.

  • Registered Users Posts: 527 ✭✭✭sterz

Not being pedantic at all. You say soccer pitches are open. Can myself and a bunch of friends head out and play a game so?

Link I saw mentioned outdoor sports facilities and non-contact sports. So I don't see how opening soccer pitches helps anyone.

62 cases in Donegal today. 3% of the population, 14.4% of todays cases. Highest incidence rate in the country by some way with 288.33. Kildare next at 209.88.

    The Hi Sir variant?

Apparently its AZ only, which is useless to most of us here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,065 ✭✭✭funnydoggy

Hope they send a majority of it to India tbh

Given what India are facing it'll be welcome. Very welcome.

edit: the particular tweet about being proud is ambiguous.
They banned export of raw materials which affected the serum institute i.e the largest producers of vaccines in the world who happen to be based in India.

Being stuck next to your county has been the issue for a lot of it
