Am I missing something? Re-opening seems to be what is expected and slow yet everyone seems super positive (which is good by the way)....Outdoors pub not open until 7th of June (again we miss another Bank Holiday).....No indoor dining until July....Gyms not open until June 7th....Like they could not have gone any slower really??!

Glacial! Most of these activities/businesses should have been open months ago.
Totally accept it's a different situation for pubs and restaurants due to indoor element, but there was never any scientific justification for closing retail.

Couldn’t agree more. Something very sad about people celebrating being able to freely move in their own country and get their haircut.

I’d imagine it’s the financial talk from during the week driving this as well. Otherwise it might be slower

The only thing I'd have said should have been open weeks ago is clock and collect, still not available for another two odd weeks? And then regular retail is back a week after its a bit silly but more than welcome!

Shops and the like being back open is massive as that's the largest chunk of society back, I can deal with a couple more takeaways and beers out the back garden till pubs and restaurants are back open which I will be supporting plenty.

Good news going into a long weekend, the mood is noticeably better in work today.

Might want to check that with the hair dressers federations. They've said they wouldn't be ready for next week

If this was the governments logic then as usual it is warped and ass backward.

Since when was the ****ing question whether or not the businesses are ready to open up again? The issue is not if they are ready, it is if they are allowed!.

Allow them to open. The ones who are ready will do so, the ones who aren't will take a few days and then open when it suits them.

Yet more evidence that these clowns don't actually understand what is happening or what they are doing.

You seem inordinately shocked by something they've been telling us for weeks they were going to do. Knowing that there will be a little bit more each week works for most people.

Well, most people have clearly lost all perspective and hope if they think it's acceptable to have had these businesses shut for half a year without any evidence to support the measures.
We deserve better, and I'm glad some posters realise that.

Most businesses could not open next Tuesday after being shuttered for so long. An extra week gives them all time. I really can't see why you're so surprised at this, it's been loosely pencilled in for a few months anyway.

I am not a bit shocked at governments plan....I am
Shocked at people’s excitement...It is very slow yet it has been pitched as much quicker than expected - sure it could have been much slower really...

Phew - I’m not the only one that thinks this way!

They have just pushed out it out as much as they could really - I don’t see any quicker opening than expected...

I think you're presuming that you and only you are right. Surely if you've been tormented by this for the guts of a year you can hang on for another few weeks? It'll help prepare your head for normal life!

Shocked by the positivity of it all myself tbh.

It's painfully slow. No outdoor dining til June, but I can go up the north from may 10th and get pints up there? Which is precisely what I'm going to do tbh.

Well, it is quicker than they were painting a couple of months ago and the excitement is because people believe we are not going back to this again. For some people that is incredibly important both mentally and physically.

I'm happy to consider any logic that supports the lengthy closures, as I have yet to see any.
Given the seriousness of shutting down so much of the economy I think that's only fair.
I haven't been tormented, but I know many on the PUP, small business owners, and parents who have been.

Apparently, depression is much more prevalent for those whose income decreased or who lost their jobs during the pandemic. For some people, lockdown meant loss of income, loss of daily purpose and meaning, loss of socialisation and constant contact with dysfunctional family members. One can only hope that these people have managed to stay sane and will recover over the next 12 months.

Just had a chat with my neighbour about the restrictions being lifted.

He said we're gonna go back into a lockdown during the summer.

    You can't win

    So in summary:

    May 10th

    -Intercounty travel permitted
-Hairdressers and personal services look set to resume busines
-Click and collect, will return the week starting May 10th ahead of a wider reopening of non-retail business later in May
    -Adult training
    -50 at worship
-Households will be allowed to meet in groups of six
outdoors including in private gardens; indoors of same amount only if vaccinated (guidelines on this to be released)

    June 2nd

-Hotel and B&Bs reopen: Indoor dining is expected to be allowed ( be interesting to see if there is caveat attached to this)

    June 7th

-Outdoor hospitality including restaurants and pubs will resume

    -Gyms and pools reopen

    Other points to note:

€9 meal for pubs is expected to be abolished and the 15-person limit for outdoor dining rule may also be scrapped.(good, was ludicrous)

All subject to cabinet approval, announcement due tomorrow at 6PM by government.

Few things left off that list that i wonder when they'll return, or will government give any indication.

Like i'm assuming any accommodation service reopens on June 2nd with Hotels, so mobile home parks etc can all reopen, but be nice for clarity on that.

Things like cinemas too, they were in with gyms last year I think, so wondering will they reopen in June, or is it July when indoor pubs/restaurants return.

Fella owns a salon on to Neil now saying he wanted more notice for re-opening.. He has two weeks.. GO! :)

Would assume cinemas are in that July 5th bucket then.

There is a big gap from June 7th to July 5th though that stuff could be slotted into.

Also, June 7th is a bank holiday, are they actually going with that date, or is it really June 8th?

I asked a local cinema worker if they’d heard anything and they felt it will be July or august till cinemas open. Maybe they were just being cautious/pessimistic. Shame, I’ve been looking forward to getting back to cinema visits. They had really good social distance measures and were actually mostly empty at Christmas.

We there was pre pandemic traffic in Rathmines this morning. I haven't see that level of gridlock for a while!

It's the smell of a plan. Of something concrete, that makes people positive as well.

Since February we've had people claiming it'll be lockdown till April, June, September, Xmas. There's been no certainty, no whiff of when we can get back to anything again; see our families, enjoy a pint with them.

From what I can tell the proposed schedule is basically bang on what they had been hinting since Feb/Mar, maybe a little bit accelerated.

One can complain all they like about the pace of reopening, but we're one of the only EU countries that hasn't had to battle yet another surge after the Xmas one, and it's because we didn't try to reopen.

Yeah haven't seen cinemas mentioned but would assume they could be somewhere in between or July 5th. Hard to tell really

Seems like gym goers are the only ones to be disappointed. Surely individual training from mid-May would have been alright.

Ya, same, i felt dodgy about going to them when they reopened but when I finally did, i was like this is a well set up system. Hopefully we know today when the government announce it rather than the leaks. Out of the releases coming up from a blockbuster point of view, there's Fast and Furious 9 and Black Widow in early July so be nice if they were open for those.
