Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No MM fan but....I thought he spoke quite well

Positive news but typically convoluted, ironic 474 more cases and 3 deaths announced as the Taoiseach spoke so whilst hospitalisation down, numbers of new cases not so down.

I don't get these various permissions as to who can visit another person's house, it's a nonsense and besides who monitors this.

I'm sure pubs and restaurants thrilled at the notion of out door service, they might get a few weeks of decent weather. The pronouncement by the HSE of 250k Vacinnes next week is probably fantasy, but we'll see.

Salons and barber's by appointment? Yeah, that's really going to happen and of course salons & barber's will turn away those naughty clients who haven't booked.

So hard to know, hard to see what's going to happen but with that mysterious and quite frankly nonsensical notion of €15 billion in personal savings waiting to be spent, I'm sure the economy will be fine, I've just ordered a Rolex myself (NOT)

Aviation person on radio not at all happy with what was announced. He can’t understand why there isn’t a roadmap for them as an industry.

Gyms and swimming pools opening the same day as outdoor hospitality.

I know what activity I'll be pursuing.

    Swimming.....in pints.

Now we just need to stop with the obsessive reporting of case numbers every day and we’re away with it

I don't believe them numbers anymore

When do people reckon mandatory mask wearing in shops/public transport/indoor areas etc will end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,949 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Publican here putting the reality on the outdoor only stuff. Running his pub on the basis of 20 customers just won't be worth it for him and many others I'd say.

That'll likely be among the last to go unfortunately.

I have been an avid traveller, have visited all 7 continents, but I feel a lot of serious travel is going to off the cards for several reasons for another year or two. Like a lot, have had to cancel many trips during this pandemic. The peculiar thing is I have almost come to dread the thought of being in busy airports again, I can't imagine myself being able for it again. I feel I might be dipping my toes again by booking on board a small commuter type airplane to, eg, UK, where I won't be standing as much in long queues. Or maybe taking the ferry. It's a really strange thing for me to admit this.

Honestly think a weekly update* is all that's required. Case numbers are largely irrelevant and have been for about two months now since the vulnerable were getting vaccinated properly.

Hospital and ICU numbers are the key, even when we have 80% vaccinated at some point in the future there will likely be cases.

Give NPHET a Tuesday evening each week to give the weekly figures and that's all they get

*Of course the media would be up in arms not being able to report their daily dose of doom so it likely won't happen

To be honest I find the case numbers fairly interesting. Especially on a regional level. It makes for interesting reading as to the behaviour of the virus in what is in effect a fairly homogeneous country. (Dublin excepted ;))

That said I dont understand why people take the media headlines as gospel and get worked up/ outraged on the basis of whats published.. Most have some basis of truth but a lot more are pure fluff. Maybe we need anti media goggles issued to everyone :pac:

ASAP hopefully. Most useless of things introduced during the whole shambles. I’d imagine be February 2022 unfortunately.

Did they mention when kids can play matches? Help coaching and they ask me every night can they have a practice match, high fiving and arm in arm all over but can only do drills.

Well that’s it. It’s not wet or dry pubs it’s indoor and outdoor. I mean non of the pubs have any room outdoor and what they do it’s barely worth it.

Honestly? Probably not till spring of next year at the minimum I would say. Social Distancing and mask wearing will probably be the last restrictions removed.

I know a few people who've had to travel for essential work reasons and they all say it's a gift at the moment. Empty airports and planes, no stress queuing. A completely different experience.

No it was an airline CEO and I can’t remember his name. I’ll have to check on the listen back.

Even independent TD Michael Collins is sounding upbeat on the radio. It seems politicians across the board are trying to keep the positive mood.

No issue with that at all personally - as long as the mandatory requirement is gone.

I certainly won't be one of those wearing one anyway.

First question at the media presser featuring MM and Leo:

    "Are we reopening too quickly?"

Jesus wept. It wouldn't surprise me if that reporter was a government plant to throw favourable light on our dear leaders.

MM being asked what "remaining stable" means in regards to the criteria for the next phase and what the criteria is...

... he immediately defers to NPHET's recommendations, says no specific benchmarks, variables involved... waffle, waffle....

Translation: Still making it up as they go along!

Won't everyone be vaccinated at that stage? I can't see the justification for continuing it then. Like others have said, grand if people choose to wear them and it is a positive that it can impact on the spread of flu, but mandatory requirements should not last longer than necessary.

Absolutely love the way you are falling over yourselves with excitement. It will be short lived and the Irish will do what they do best and **** things up and we will be back in level 5 again in 8 to 10 weeks time and we will all be eating turkey on our own again come Christmas.

More importantly what was the answer?

Have you heard of a thing called a vaccine?

It's a thing that's used to stop the spread of a virus just in case you haven't.

I'm hiding under the bed, you can take the gap behind couch. We needn't risk the outside world until 2022, Tesco delivery guy never misses a deadline.

Get a grip, with widespread vaccination we'll never experience Level 5 drudgery again. And economic pressure will tell on the government by the autumn, so any hiking of restrictions due to advent of seasonal viruses is minimal at most.
