Rayburn Solid Fuel boiler question

Hi, We have a Rayburn SF Cooker which heats the hot-water and rads no problem.
My question is why on gravity systems does the boiler outlet pipe go to the top connection of the cylinder? My kid has asked as he reckons that as hot water rises surely it would be better to enter the coil at the bottom.
I say it's because it's a gravity system and cooling water 'falls' once the hot water enters the tank but I'd like to know I'm correct.
    Thank you all in advance
