Stephen Kenny is very unconvincing in all his interviews.

It explains a lot if he’s like this in the dressing room

Stephen Kenny doesn't instill any confidence with that interview at all....

    Is Ted Lasso available?

Nobody expects a new manager to pull players from anywhere, we're all aware how short on quality we are relative to previous teams but were far better than we are doing right now.

Jesus, did you really think this team could compete for a world cup place? You need to have a look at the squad and realise that this is only going to get worse before it gets better.

Yes I think with Serbia being our main competitors for 2nd place we have a good chance even with this squad. With the way you and other Kenny defenders go on about this squad you would think we have lads playing for Wrexham and Stockport. We were playing LUXEMBOURG. A country with 1/8th our population. I don't even want to hear the nonsense about "we wouldn't qualify anyway". Luxembourg will now likely finish above us and if they somehow win or draw against Serbia and Qatar we suddenly become minnows in all further Euro/WC draws in the future. This can always get worse before it gets better and I have no time for the Kenny and LOI fans defending this result.

Famous old saying 'you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear' applies here.
You can blame the manager if you want but this is down to lack of quality and all fault for me falls at the corrupt door of John Delaney.
FAI need to sort things out as regards developing our youngsters.

I don't think anyone's under any illusions that we have a severe lack of quality in the top third, and that farming the development of our players out to the English game has backfired and massively eroded our talent pool. (And that this was going happen was apparent to anyone with a brain for at least 15 years).

But look at the clubs Luxembourg's player play for. Generally they're at a lower level than ours. We should've had enough to beat them.

Belgium outsource everything and it doesn't seem to be an issue for them. The UK has some of the best facilities in the world its a no brainer to use them.

They do have the best facilities, but fewer and fewer of our players are going over there and making the grade. Why is that happening?

It isn't fecking hard for the FAI to invest in an academy. They spent stupid millions lining the pockets of Delaney, Trap, O'Neill, Mick and all their assistants. Wasn't Roy Keane on over half a million a year for being an assistant manager.

If you think tonight is the worst you have haven't been paying attention to Irish football that long. There will be more of this.

Of course, we all know that. But this is Luxembourg. A half decent manager should be able to utilize this squad to tactically outplay this Luxembourg team. We have 5 Premier League players starting.

France drew with Luxembourg in 2017

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41138056

and recently beat and drew against the Azeri. Also beat Montenegro so they are definitely on the up. Ireland simply do not have creativity to play penetrative possession football. Plus Ireland have no decent striker to put the ball in the net.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

He doesn't don't say that, but don't let that stop a rant.

Bad result, absolutely. Poor performance second half. But we are a third tier European team, losing to a fourth tier team shouldn't be seen as embarrassing really. People need to lower their expectations given what we have available. When you're relying on the likes of Brady and Long to rescue you then you know you're in trouble. Hourihane, Connolly, McCarthy and Egan are losses in a squad bereft of talent and regular football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,989 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Luxembourg have outsourced their player development too.

No they haven't. From the age of 12 they've a full time academy that trains five times a week and once you turn 14 you're basically based there full time. If they had the population we had, and with the time and effort they put into developing young players they'd be up there competing for play offs.

For an insight into the mentality of the FAI, it's worth noting that before any add ons, expenses or personal rent being payed for, the FAI were handing their CEO more than three times the prize money the league champions were receiving for winning the national league.

Not his fault, no one in their right mind would say no to that money annually.

John Delaney decided to give Robbie a 4 year contract for 250k a year in 2018 and he went and worked under McCarthy.

Kenny comes in and says he wants his own team and doesn't want Robbie and now he's doing fúck all and being paid a handsome amount.

Typical bullshít management from the FAI that have left themselves with egg on their face time and time again.

    Brian kerr
    Stephen staunton
    Eoin hand.

Lets see who can get a win in 10 games.

What we do at senior level should be an absolute irrelevance for next few years until we get our underage set up and league in order.

We have outsourced development of young players to the UK, so any chance of changing the senior teams "style" is pure aspirational pie in the sky guff.

He's out of his depth but leave him at it. Invest in the game at home instead of another big money manager who will try and cobble together a hard to beat XI who will admirably fail to qualify, whilst lining his pockets with little interest in football in Ireland.

    But that nothing new.

It's been the case for decades.

The only time Ireland were any good was because of a perfect storm of good players with Irish links and a no nonsense manager.

People have been on about developing the league of Ireland and building academies for years and it never gets done, because the FAI can never afford it and the lure of the UK, regardless of how poor the quality might be, is irresistible to young lads.
