    Evenly matched teams.

    First goal crucial!

Two poor teams, as Dunphy would say.

We’re are plodding along here. Hopefully the second half has more zip.

Indeed.. zero momentum would be putting it kindly.

Bazunu looks like he's been an international for years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,401 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Is George pronouncing Bazunu correctly (Bazuno) or is he just ignorant?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,067 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Collins actually looks technically better than what we have seen in a while. ( i mean for Ireland).

Slow . But he is trying and has decent control.

You can see the city coaching coming through, comfortable with the ball at his feet.

George usually does his homework on pronunciations in fairness

Robinson the shining light of the team

Happy enough with the new lads like O Shea, Cullen and Knight. Bazuna untested but looks comfortable.

Think Stevens and Clarke are the weak links in the team.

    Should be beating these comfortably

Upping the ante a bit here. Browne has been much more involved since my last post.

The latter. Kelly is pronouncing it correctly.

They actually look technically. They can knock it around better than us so far.

Well, they're generally brought up around German and Swiss football, so not that surprising.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,172 ✭✭✭wadacrack

Pretty underwhelming tbh. At this rate we may need a game v Gibraltar to get a win. But they have even proven tough for us...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,316 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

We've been playing well I thought, obviously no goal.

Seriously missing that bit of world class quality to set us apart from these.

And someone to stick the ball in the net. Robinson looks the best threat.

  • Registered Users Posts: 747 ✭✭✭athlone99

Alan Brown is very sloppy in posession, causing us problems with his poor passes

    Jesus, that was a scare.

    Very good feet by Bazuno!!

We have absolutely nothing in the final third. Nothing.

Do you know where Luxembourg is? :P

It's easy to mix them up with Lichtenstein though :D

We've struggled against them in the past too!

Don’t worry about this lad, he allows zero negativity or constructive criticism towards the team at all.

Wouldn't have counted but they can't even put the ball into an empty net.

Luxembourg are better than I expected but Ireland are still very poor.

We're doing ok, just think back to the Gibraltar game!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,369 ✭✭✭Rossi IRL

Passing so bad, seems like every pass is being rushed

Possibly the worst football match in history!

Three central defenders is clearly looking like overkill here. Kenny needs to take off either Clark or O'Shea and put another man in midfield so the defence can more easily find a midfielder to pass to.

Browne is not good enough. Gives the ball away with poor touches for sport. Stevens looking like a league 2 footballer and not a PL player with how hopeless he is with his passes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,029 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Seriously missing that bit of world class quality to set us apart from these.

A Wes Hoolihan would make the difference TBF. Wouldn't need to be a world class act but someone that's comfortable on the ball and open up a team with passes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,726 ✭✭✭clsmooth

I’d be interested in seeing Stevens passing stats tonight. Seems to have given the ball away an awful lot..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭Bob Harris

    Is this a friendly match?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Desperate half of football. Really bad. Struggling to create against a team 98th in the world, ranked behind the giants of Bahrain and the Kyrgyz Republic. They've even had more shots than us (4 to 3).

Can only imagine the reaction if this were Trap, MON or McCarthy's 10th game in charge.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,811 ✭✭✭ShamNNspace

    Could be worse

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,356 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Seeing plenty of the ball but not able to do much with it. Giving it away sloppily at times too.

The spark is missing where it matters and it looks to have 0-0 written all over it.

Robinson has been decent, but a bit wasted on the wings.

When I started typing 'German football' I was thinking Luxembourg. By the time I was typing 'Swiss football' I was thinking Leichenstein, yes. :D

    I blame the whiskey.

Shame Jack Byrne got that injury this would be a perfect game for him to come into

Has to be clarke of the pair of them for me. At least O Shea looks somewhat comfortable bring the ball out.

Have a look at the Irish squad, it has hard working players but none of them are very creative.

    45 minutes
    Drawing isn’t an option
Needs to be quicker, straighter, simpler and more physical.

    Glazers Out!

Having more possession in this game is really showing up now poor some of our players are on the ball. Couple of nice moments though.

Luxembourgs underage national teams play in the regional German leagues. Well I assume they still do anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭Bob Harris

I'm not surprised...most of their players are in second tier Euro.leagues...most of ours are in the second tier in England. That would suggest a tight, low quality encounter and lo and behold...

Then don’t ask them to be creative. They’re better athletes and used to playing at a higher tempo with greater intensity than their opponents. They want to be nice and tidy and play a structured contest. And we’re letting them.

Hopefully we’re more direct and purposeful in the second half.

Bazunu, knight and stephens look well. Robinsons drifting wide a lot but I suppose that's where the space is. Collins is playing awful no striker should be missing from that distance.

I'd like to see both night and molomby in a game there both lively.

A decent striker would make the world of difference to this team
