    Browne is not good enough.

Many on the pitch not good enough, but at least he leads in with full commitment and has looked menacing at times.
And he's one of few proven goalscorers we actually have!

Everything is so rushed. Just take a second to turn and look for a pass or run into space. Everything is passed at speed when it doesn't need to be. Stevens has given away some amount of ball...and I'm sorry but that's an awful miss from Collins for our chance .. keeper is at the front post and he basically hit it back at him as he moves across the line. Gotta bury that.

Robinson and Browne need to be swapped I think.

Robinson is clearly out best ball player and Browne’s better moments have come out wide

Some of the players seem to be making constant bad decisions. Some nice bits of play followed by a pointless flick or a hopeful pass or knocking it out for a throw. Frustrating watch.

Would imagine it’ll be 1-0 to Ireland or 1-1. We’re crap but they should be worst.

If doherty or Stevens don’t perform it’s time to find new wing backs. Would prefer to see Parrott start over Collins.

Brady for Stevens. Coleman in Doherty’s position and either take doherty off or just play him at the back.

Desperate half of football. Really bad. Struggling to create against a team 98th in the world, ranked behind the giants of Bahrain and the Kyrgyz Republic. They've even had more shots than us (4 to 3).

Can only imagine the reaction if this were Trap, MON or McCarthy's 10th game in charge.

Wasn't Mick happy for a draw against the mighty Georgia? I see you never responded to Sugarman calling you out about MON or Mick failing to beat those lads.

They were ranked 98th in the world when you told us before kick off but thanks for the update and good to know that hasn't changed since.

Any thoughts on picking Bazunu instead of Travers?

This has been really, really, poor. Cannot believe we are standing off them and letting them pass. They are a poor side. Press them and they will panic. Push up and force them into mistakes.

Big Stephen Kenny fan but that first half was miserable. We are giving them way too much respect and they have grown into the game.

We need to move the ball quicker. Lot of us standing when we get the pass.

If you look at our one goal chance we created, it was because the ball was moved quickly up the pitch.

Says something when one of our best performances at home to Luxemburg is from our goalie.

    Could be worse

    My thoughts exactly.

Nothing up front apart from Robinson, really.

Browne tries but he's lacking a bit of quality. Collins is not suitable for a team trying to play with movement. Doherty just isn't at the races. Stevens is cropping up now and again, but he's delegating a bit too much responsibility in the top third to Robinson. He hasn't put in one cross.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,001 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    Maybe this is harsh.

But does Stephen Kenny just look unconvincing on side lines .

    Nervous
He probably is , as not much has gone right for him so far.

Unless he turns into an animal in the dressing room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

The formation just isn't working for me. Three central defenders is overkill when the only real threat that Luxembourg are showing are long shots and set-pieces. Our right wing is a devoid of creativity, Doherty is offering nothing and Browne is not a natural wide player. Too much slack passing as well, all our midfielders have been caught out more than once. Collins had that one chance, but other than that he's been living off scraps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,989 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Would come back out for the second half with this line up:

    ..........................................Bazunu
    ..............................O'Shea - Lenihan - Clark
    .....................Coleman - Knight - Cullen - Stevens
    ...........................................Robinson
    ......................................Parrott - Collins

Edit: even long up top as he'd pressure them and make runs in behind.

We are also a poor side who will panic and make mistakes.

And I don't mean good players playing poor, we have poor players

We’re allowing them play the game at a tempo that suits them and knock it about comfortably. Way too much respect.

It's what happens when you try and teach old dogs new tricks, i.e get second tier players to play football, passing with purpose isn't natural to them, all so instinctive and not in a good way.

    Portugal 2-0 up gainst Serbia

I think his hamstring is gone. Watch him when he gets the ball or is asked to chase the ball. He can't run.

This can be true for international football where a manager doesn't get anywhere near the time needed to fine tune this way of playing. Annoying seeing the promising moments mixed with the stupid, bit more pragmatism is needed.

The Full Moon is more interesting and getting better analysis at half time there than the first half on RTE.

We're better than Luxembourg. We're better than this team we're playing against. Stephen Kenny needs a win here. Hopefully it happens.

    Portugal 2-0 up gainst Serbia

Shocking that, ray hougton thought they were “aging” and the group was “wide open”

Portugal are one of the youngest most exciting teams in Europe and will run away with the group.

Better than this team how ? What players do we have available that are better than this team or what can we do tactically

Bad enough he's playing badly but if he can't even run...Brady on now

Browne back to right wing back and Brady into the middle.

Browne gone to RWB, plays there at times for Preston

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,328 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Doherty is a backup right back or perhaps in a back 3 at a stretch vs Lux and Aze.

    He’s just not very good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

We need to play like we did 3-1 down against Serbia. Suddenly we had pressure on everyone and we were getting forward to create chances.

First half we were standing off them and they are only Luxembourg!! We need to get stuck in and up the pace everywhere. We don't have a Robbie Keane so we need to create a load of chances just to take one.

Georgia 89th in rankings, Luxembourg 98th. Not a lot of different tbf

They look more likely then we do to score. I’ve defended Kenny but this is surely a must-win

Always my biggest gripe with us that we don't seem to do things with urgency until we're either losing or defending like mad against stronger teams.

Probably is. But he certainly hasn't helped . As it must be worst ever run by an Irish manager ?

Definitely in 50 years anyway ?

The rankings also say we're 13 places ahead of Finland, who beat us home and away.

Oh ok. It’s just you were using the rankings earlier to denigrate Luxembourg. Fair enough if you think they are misleading.

This tenure looks like it will be viewed similar to Stauntons in the future. A cheap but under qualified failure.

A draw at home against Luxembourg is basically a loss
