    Hi All,

Just wanted some advice on some forestry we own, Forestry details as follows:

    28 years old
    Sitka spruce
    On road side
    Not been thinned since planted
    6.4 hectares/15.8 acres in Leitrim

A neighbour has approached about buying it as is, no price offered. He owns the land bordering the forestry.

    My questions are:

How much approx. would it be worth selling as is?
How much is the timber worth if we clearfell?
If someone buys it as is do they to have to plant again after the clear it?
Will the new owner receive premiums if they plant?

    Thanks,
    Nightwing

Go on Forestsales.ie for some comparisons with other plantations in your area. The felling license will have a requirement for replanting, there are no grants for replanting. They might get a bit of a top-up if switching to to one of the Native Woodland schemes but there is no grant/premium for a straight replanting.

Well managed forest could realise 10-15k an acre at clearfell.

Yours is not well managed given it was never thinned so 6-10k more likely for clearfell in the next 10-15 years.

It is very difficult get licences to fell at the moment.
