Hi all, been going around in circles for hours. Hopefully somebody has had this issue before and will know the fix.
I am trying to install Graphics drivers and keep getting a not compatible with this version of windows error.
Device manager shows Microsoft basic display adapter.
However i also have a Pci device showing as no drivers. This i think is the main problem?
Windows does not find a driver when asked to update.
I have installed the chipset drivers that came with the new board so not that.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Sorry should have included this
    Win10 Ver1607 OS build 14393.2214
    The card is a GTX1660.
All was working fine until the clean windows install.
Only reason for the re install was the boot times had gone very long.
Further research shows the iffy PCI device as TU116 USB Type-C UCSI Controller
So not that that is stopping the install?

Your Windows version seems to be ancient.

Have a look at this article, you should see 20H2 if you're using the latest version. I bet this is why the NVIDIA drivers won't install...?

I would reinstall again with the official MS tool found here, and try installing the GPU drivers again. HTH

Edit: or wait for Windows Update to catch up...

Thinking the same tbh, Painful on a slow 6meg connection shared with the rest of the house...
Will leave it running overnight to download and see what happens tomorrow.
    Thanks all.

This is the oldest version on their site, I'd try that:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/drivers/results/166508/

Windows 10 as its a monolith OS that's intended to roll on indefinitely really is many OSs under one name. 1607 is Windows 10, 180x is Windows 11, 1903 is Windows 12, 20H2 is Windows 13 - or this is a way you can think about it. Adobe support about 2 builds per version with their stuff, seems like nVidia are probably doing the same. I've a similar headache with AMD.

Update to 20H2 did the trick. That said i am still downloading various updates over 24 hours later.
I do not do a reinstall of Windows often but i am sure it should be easier than this.
What is best practice for doing this?

Where did you get the reinstall version?

Ive a decent connection, up into the 100mb range if i get it at the right time, and my laptop is nippy enough- and an install/updates cycle can still run to a few hours

If you're on a slow network or the pc itself is a bit limited then you can multiply that easily enough, alas

It was the original install files i used.
Does a recovery disc have all the updates on it?
If so i missed that trick.

Might be no harm to download a version onto a USB stick?

No, download the latest build via the media creation tool before you reinstall. Thatll always be current/close to current.

You should really have downloaded the most recent Windows version direct from the Microsoft website.
