Hilarious thread, gotta love the boomers with Stockholm syndrome. Yes, I want them to spend thousands of my tax money so they can give me more fines and catch me quicker. We have to ensure no one escapes the €80 and 3 penalty points or them rogue armed robbers we see every week robbing banks. Back to work good citizen, we need more tax for the toys.

In my opinion they should own BMW M5s as standard operating car and a couple of bugattis in every county for the hot pursuits that we get on a daily basis.

There won't be any Skodas because the PSNI use them,

Don't worry, they'll all be back in armoured Land Rovers before too long.

    0.9 litre Renault Captur.

They had a Renault 4 in Raphoe in Donegal in the early 90s,

When it's released, I'd wishbone Gardaí got a few Ioniq 5s.

Looks like an old s3, bigger than a Tucson so plenty of space, 0-100 in 5.2 seconds, not cripplingly expensive.

    They'd forget to charge it

Oh they'd charge it, but the courts would let it out on bail

I don't think you understand the meaning of Stockholm Syndrome

I don't think it matters what they have TBH. If they have a radio/phone and a camera then there's nothing getting away from them.

Very few will do anything except pull over when the blue lights come on in the mirror. Those who do want to make a race of it, we probably wouldn't want to encourage by giving AGS something they could see as a challenge.

So did the the ambulance service and still have a few 2013/4 left.

Garda ones were a special buy and never kept it up.

Everything is a cost savings exercise but it usually is done terrible.

    Ford Sierra

They did have a few cosworths in the 1990s.

    Best Garda one I drove was a Volvo s80 2.9 t6 - close to 300hp - An absolute animal of a car.

That and the xc70s they had were decent as well.

surely it would have to be....

Armed response could save a few quid using a Ford explorer instead of an X5

We have on in work, I think they really look the part for for a big SUV. Come in Police spec in the US too, if only they made a RHD version.

After that, the V70 / XC70 made great all rounders.

What I never understood though, were decisions to have aftermarket companies fit out Garda cars, when so many options exist from the manufacturers themselves which would be much cleaner to integrate (run lock, siren control from iDrive, dataloggers etc)

Too modern, wee grey Fergie with a cage on the link box, bring back the old greatcoat so no need for a cab

There was a couple of unmarked petrol mondeo st220s back in the day around limerick and a few Turbo foresters! The ultimate for me would be the new Rs6 Avant bloody mental and practical!

I seem to recall at the time the deal was done with Hyundai for them to supply and service the i40's, BMW actually came in cheaper for 3/ 5 series, but this was around the time of the great recession, and talk in political circles at the time was that it wouldn't look good for the nGardaí to be seen driving Bimmers, when the country hadn't a pot to piss in.

    full fantasy mode engaged!

What the guards really need is a predator drone!

    Cars are so last century
they have rockets now that no longer use explosives they have a set of spinning blades to kill the target so no innocent bystander getting hurt that will sort out those illegal parking and speeding drivers

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Atomics_MQ-1_Predator

predator drones and recovery trucks are all you really need :)

It's just a bit of fun on an internet forum. The Garda purchasing team aren't actually going to take these suggestions on.

M5 is way over budget, didn't read the brief, fail, back to school.

The Focus RS I thought looked good in the UK Police Force colours. Not exactly fantasy as its been done, but I might be slightly biased.
