Trade is trade, you are now saying that Ukraine supported its own invasion because it traded with Russia. Bizarre. In fact you are now actually saying that Zelensky supported the Putin regime because he was in power when Ukraine traded with Russia. Completely bonkers stuff.

Just because a country (Ireland/Ukraine) traded with Russia before the invasion, that doesn't mean that its leaders (Martin/Varadkar/Zelensky) politically supported the Putin regime.

However, a politician that refused to condemn Russia, that refused to support sanctions against Russia, that criticised Nato support for Ukraine, etc., well, that politician is giving political support to Putin and his regime. In Ireland, those politicians (with the noted exception of the lunatic failed politician Gemma O'D) have all been left-wing politicians, and even Gemma probably considers herself to be left-wing for the people.

No I'm not. I'm not claiming Ireland did either. Come back down to ground level. You made a claim, I disagreed. Your claim is politically motivated and false.

Wallace and Daly condemned Putin and supported that vote condemning the invasion. Who are you talking about?

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,755 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

Wallace and Daly's support for Russia has been well-chronicled on these pages. Suggesting after over 450 posts that somehow they don't support Russia is quite bizarre.

As for others on the left supporting Russia, there is Sinn Fein above.

Here is what decent people in the North think of PBP opposition to Russia sanctions.

Political support for Russia and Putin in Ireland comes almost overwhelmingly from the Left. End of.

Caught out on another claim or 'opinion' that the facts don't agree with. Pivot to the north. Classic.

    You said:

However, a politician that refused to condemn Russia

If you are talking about Wallace or Daly, you are wrong. Reverting to 'well they support Russia in anyway' isn't the same. They both condemned Putin and voted accordingly.

SF won't support expelling diplomat. Bad. FF/FG/Greens won't expel diplomat, sound logic. 🤣

    'Decent people' 😎

As shown by your failed attempt at whitewashing the FF/FG efforts to enrich Putin, it's not clear cut. 'Decent people' allow others to have a differing opinion without running a hate campaign against them. I posted this earlier:

Exclusive: Irish government rejected Ukraine appeal to ban Russia leasing planes after annexation of Crimea

Does this make the FG, aided by FF, government not 'decent people' or will we be served up another of your humorous about faces?

Believing sanctions don't work and only hurt the public, is a common view and does not automatically support invasion or butchery.

That's only because the far-right have never got within an ass's roar of being elected to anything here. They can't even be bothered to try to build an electoral base at council level, stand for the Dail then act surprised when they struggle to get 100 votes.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

The far-right are therefore not a danger to society as their influence is completely limited to crazy loons on the fringes.

By contrast, the far-left supporters of Putin have managed to get themselves elected in numbers to the EP, to the Dail and to our Councils. That makes them a much bigger threat to our social democratic way of life.

It seems that many anti-establishment politicians and parties across Europe supported Putin, both right and left. They could use Putin's Russia as a somewhat prosperous country who succeeded not just outside in the establishment, but under immense pressure from it. Didn't seem to matter that how Russia was run was an anathema to what they claimed to have stood for. It just so happens that most anti-establishment parties with any kind of voice in Ireland are left leaning.

... and the irony in the last line is... Putin is so far to the right he makes a Fascist look mid mannered. Now can the left explain their support for all Russia! wet dreams methinks.

Irish MEPs vote against resolution condemning Russia (rte.ie)

continuing to be a embarrassment to Ireland and shameless apologists for putin ,

ming didn't have the nuts to vote either way though.

who exactly feels that they are being represented by these two wage stealing quislings ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,603 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

They voted against a specific part which was about military assistance. They are morons though and they are a huge embarrassment to us.

I don't think they have ever condemned Russia and I don't believe they only voted against a specific part of the resolution. I think they supported a separate resolution.

Two absolutely abhorrent individuals. I hope those that voted for them are hammering them with communications about their behaviour and that the don't see the inside of any political chamber ever again.

You'd hope between the Belgian and Irish security and tax authorities, a very close eye is being kept on the company these two bozos keep as well as any unusual financial dealings.

Clare Daly's consituency office is at the same address of the Communist Party of Ireland, and the party told the press it's "nobody's business" if they are renting the space to her (or indeed if there is another arrangement in place). Daly isn't forthright about it either.

It's not breaking news that Putin funds fringe anti-EU parties across the continent...

Why can't people see the bigger picture?

Wallace and Daly may indeed have started out caring out the poorest in society. Maybe they didn't, but that's how they portrayed things.

Now, it's a money-making exercise. Not just through earnings in the EU, but elsewhere.

    It's a scam.

Unfortunately, there is a vast audience for this - and they know this perfectly well.

It's the same blueprint that George Galloway follows. Originally it's about a cause. Then it becomes about how to make the cause become a profit.

    It's all about the money.

They pick apart the motion until they can find a reason to tacitly support russia. Did they get over the stickers on the door yet ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,603 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

The article says they voted against the 5th paragraph which was about military assistance. The alternate resolution they gave support to is what I would describe as rubbing one off for putin. Daly and Wallace are scum.

Mick Wallace accuses Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael of ‘promoting and loving’ the war in Ukraine - Independent.ie

    Re Putin

“Truth be told, he stole the election last year from the Communists, who I’d have liked to have seen winning it,” he said.

"The Wexford MEP also claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has “also threatened nuclear strikes”. Zelensky’s office clarified statements from the president that when calling for “pre-emptive strikes” on Russia, he meant sanctions before the war began to prevent Russia from ever using nuclear weapons in Ukraine."

Does this lad even know what he is at or is he just reading from a script that is above his level of intelligence ?

The Communist Party in Russia are on the Putinist payroll and are firmly part of Putin's 'managed democracy'. They don't scare the cows in the Kremlin and are allowed as a fake opposition for the benefit of plonker foreigners like Mick. They're also backing this war unsurprisingly.

There should be a picture of Mick Wallace next to the useful idiot entry in next year's Oxford dictionary.

Wallace and Daly are like the worst of left wing and worst of right wing all blended into the same thing.

Wonder what nuclear weapons does Wallace imagine that Zelensky has access to?

I imagine he's referring to *Nayyyyyyto nuclear weapons.

*Anyone notice Mick pronounces NATO like Tayto with a thick Wexford accent?

What kind of flute would lend any credence to an election in Putin's Russia?

The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything. - Pooty-poot's hero, Stalin.
