Think they pretty much said everything we think and know of this dept.

    • Lack of government funding.
    • Lack of dedicated resources.
    • Poor succession management.
    • Focus on non-conservation and protection duties.
    • No clear identity or focus due to regular movement of NPWS between Government
    Departments.
    • Poor stakeholder engagement.
    • Unable to attract the required number of skilled and professional staff due to
    current pay scales.
    • Poor primary legislation.
    • Outdated process, reactive and lack of vision

Why do they reckon poaching is dangerous?

First they came for the socialists...

I’d say definitely dangerous for the prey

    :P

I suppose I might of come off as a smart arse I just hate when things are lumped in lazily. Poaching doesn't increase the risk in and of itself.

Well, generally it does. For the simple reason it’s carried out when people aren’t expecting deer calibre rifles to be used. Secondly it’s often done by night under a lamp or with night vision. Where visibility is limited etc.

Look in my experience poachers are either lazy hunters or just plain greedy.

Poaching can be defined as shooting where you don’t have permission or out of season amongst other things.

I doubt it will be done by a lad out at dusk or dawn off season. But I might be wrong.

My point just mine is the rules are there for a reason, ours and what we are hunting.

By that point then foxing at night with a 243 is dangerous. Unless one is of the opinion that a poacher is less safe than a regular shot.
Moving on from that though I suppose I’d be sympathetic to the pot shooting poacher. But he’s a dead breed. Meat is so cheap now it’s a non issue. But I learned to hunt from my Dad who learned from a man that shot for the pot so I suppose I’d be in the grey as what I’d regard as poaching. I’m aware of the law but my morals might not align exactly.

People who are concerned about their deer hunting and those that are worried about who is in charge of the licensing and administration I guess...;)

I wouldn't even deign to call these people "poachers" these days. They arent and never will be worthy of that title. They are illegal commercial market hunters who are raping a natural resource for cash. Nothing else.Be it deer or pheasants,or shooting a trophy head for some lazy fat b""tard who couldn't heave his arse out onto the hill to shoot it himself but has cash to pay for it:mad:... Their greed has already caused problems with shooting some cattle and horses, and there has been reports of people finding bullets in the side of their houses. So I wont be surprised if one of these cretins does accidently shoot someone by mistake/greed,and it will be us that have to bear the consequences of it...again.

    No argument there.

Plus I’ve to much pride to be brought somewhere, have an animal pointed out and shoot. Tourist shooting is exactly that, shooting. Hunting implies knowledge.
