Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was it Hendry who said the other day that once a frame goes to snookers needed it should end?

    Which is absolutely absurd..

As in Selby is 27 behind with 22 on the table. If he snookers Shaun then it is in Shaun's interest to only concede 4 points (and no more) so in theory could a miss be called?

No, he cant put the ball back because he needed a snooker. And got it. But as you saw, he can put Mark back in to play from where the ball finishes.

He can only put the ball back when there are no smokers required.

Every single time Shaun leaves a red on from his break-off. That's something he definitely needs to work on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,834 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Selby won’t be too worried yet, two frame lead is a nice cushion at this stage.

Murphy is leaving a red at practically every break of his.

Does that rule have any exceptions? If Shaun just loses 4 points here through a snooker he will still win the frame.

 Not sure what your question is..

When a player fouls - but no miss is called; the other player can make him play from "where the white ends up only"

When a miss is called, the player can make his opponent retake the "same" shot, or from where the white ends up...

A miss can't be called if your opponent already (regardless of whether it's 1, 11 , or 27) needs 'foul' points , and you fail to escape from a snooker.

There might be exceptions, but not many, and referees would know them..

Jeez great pot but the cannon on the brown, Selby really has had most of the luck

That’s exactly what the poster asked!

Not so.. It's in his interest in that situation to only concede 4 points ie if he can't hit the brown; to keep well away from the higher value colours :)

EDIT: the way the rules work; if the opponent needs foul points, then a miss can't be called... So, a 'tactical' miss would be advised :pac: Ref wouldn't call a miss

In which case the referee should call a "miss"??

Or is it in the rules that no miss can be called?

    That's my question.

    Answered in Leffesem's edit. Thanks!

WTF was that Shaun? ####### awful!

Such a sloppy lazy safety from Shaun. Typical of him really and that's always been his problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,834 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah, that shot was amateur hour.

Both players looking twitchy this frame

I've seen some people say Shaun's not the brightest with his shot selection. After that I can well believe it.

    That's my question.

no miss can be called - them's the rules...

Unless it's some 'exigent circumstances' type stuff; the rules of which most snooker fans wouldn't know... I presume you might mean a 'blatant' "non effort" type shot... As a rule, and according to the rules; when your oppononent needs foul points, and you give them away, then a miss cannot be called....

    Others may know more :p

Deserved frame from Selby showcasing potting, safety, matchplay, break building - the whole shebang.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Almost identical to yesterday, Selby playing poorly and eeks session all level. An air of inevitable about all of this really.

Mark - that's the only answer to your upcoming question Hazel : "Which of the two will be happier at the mid session interval"

Wouldn't you think practising with the likes of Fergal and Ken would help him 'see' the safety shots?
Or do you either have it or you don't?

    Independent article from 2020

'Nobody knows who Shaun Murphy really is. He's still finding out, too. He remembers a few years ago driving around a roundabout in Kilcock on speakerphone to his uncle.

"My relations' old farmstead was on that exact spot in the last century," he smiles. He always knew there was some Irish in him, apart from the name.

His mother's lot hail from Donabate in north Co Dublin, his father's from Kilcock in Co Kildare.

"My passport says I'm British and I'm obviously English but I feel as Irish as anyone. It was made out very clearly we had Irish heritage.

"My grandfather may well have been involved in certain activities which may have been why he was shipped over to Manchester…"

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I like Trump's delivery in the comms box. Very relaxed manner. However, I'd still prefer Hendry or Ken in there on finals day The old reliables like Virgo and Taylors day has come and gone I feel.

Taylor's in the commentary box now. Spare a thought for the likes of Joe Perry and Rob Walker who'll never get a chance in the final. :P

Murphy taking shots too quickly, needs to compose himself here or he loses the next 4 before the interval

English born, Irish lineage, married to an Irish lass, and lives in Ireland.

Definitely English, but with enough Irish in and around him to give him a pretty solid connection.

Well it seems like he’d qualify for a jack charlton team, so that’s good enough for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Probably wrong shot selection again from Shaun.

And he's breaking off in the next frame. :(

Selby's really starting to pull away from Murphy now.

Writing on the wall here I dare say.

I never thought I'd be rooting for Murphy but I get zero enjoyment from watching Selby.

I'd predict a quick finish tonight the way it's going, well as quick as a game of snooker featuring Mark Selby can realistically be...

How haven't any of the commentators not picked up on Shaun's garbage break-offs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭hawaii501

Keeps giving Selby shots off his break as well.

He got very lucky Selby missed. Think this frame is huge for the context of the match, Murphy has to win it

Murphy needs another two frames in a row after this I feel, to put a bit of pressure on Selby.

I noticed Selby gave a raised eyebrow there....
