    Maybe they need more advisors?

As well as a Strategic Communication Unit. They should also look at hiring people from the media, who are supposedly experts in communications, as advisors as well.

It's not about opening or closing it's about the government dithering, miscommunicating and making a balls of what should be very basic stuff.
The problem is the government don't want the responsibility. So instead of making clear decisions they are doing it piece meal and tripping over each other and then trying to blame health advice on why the government seem incapable of organising would should be the simplest of things.

    Pick a planned re-opening date.
Pick a date two weeks before that to confirm or cancel the re-opening.
Let everyone know the re-opening will be decided on that date.

All they are doing is trying to dodge accountability by playing catch up instead of leading.

Trying to save a little face after yesterday. As i have seen elsewhere the big fear and difference between Ireland and other jurisdictions is the crappy healthcare system we have.

They don't want to pick at that scab.

They are in for a week and weekend of being ridiculed until they come up with a workable plan.

    Clueless in Covid.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Except variants and viruses don't follow that kind of schedule, but sure you know that.

You didn't even mention the word oblique :)

Leo was asked why he wasn't sharing info with the opposition (as per Shortall comments). Leo said they do brief the opposition but then admitted when questioned further that the last time was many months ago. It was December!

    Listen back. He was flapping.

I heard the interview live, your view of it differs to mine
Anyway, all the opposition are in with Holahan now
Let's see if that softens their cough

'Doing it on the fly, not knowing his brief, poor communication despite having advisors, not listening to others, blaming it on Holohan... :

Some of the random comments thrown at FFG this evening by one of their own

    You aren't making any sense.

You set a re-opening date and a few weeks before have a deadline to decide whether it goes ahead or not.
On that deadline you assess and make a decision. Very straightforward.
    Accountable and responsible basic planning.

Pretty much sums it up. How perceptive of the FGer. There's hope yet.

Not having a plan was always the plan according to some.

But don't worry, the government have just set up a 'working group'

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    'problems with communications'?

At least the penny has dropped in some of FF if not among those here.

Ructions within FG and FF according to the usual leaks. Chaos resumes.

Ructions within FG and FF according to the usual leaks. Chaos resumes.

And ructions between Nphet and Govt. MM told the govt that vaccine rollouts were included in Tuesdays meeting with CMO re data analysis.

Today, CMO tells the opposition that vaccine rollouts were not included in data analysis.
One of the two clowns above is not fit for Office.
    Govt of Chaos strikes again.

I am not criticising the government for delaying the re-opening.

    You are.

You can sugarcoat it all you want, but we all know that if the government opened up and the Delta variant took hold, which resulted in more people getting sick and dying, you would be the very very first person hitting the keyboards and giving out about the government.

    This.

Plenty of the same posters giving out about lack of communication were the very ones giving out about the SCU.

    Oh the irony.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,447 ✭✭✭Calhoun

Indeed because when you look for political leadership really what the public are saying they want to pay an expensive PR team or non at all.

The people want the leaders they elect to work as a cohesive team which is evidently not happening.

Lol. Touting work now for Terry Prone? Govt ministers including Donnelly have enough spin doctors working for them.

Wasn't she the one who wanted no questions raised?

Why wouldn't they give out about an expensive vanity project with taxpayers money? If they SCU was the right thing to do they wouldn't have got rid of it.

Of course, getting rid of the SCU was the wrong thing. The communications issues we have seen since then, which you have been so critical of, are the result of that decision.

It is clear now that the SCU prevented communications problems like we are seeing now. As the biggest critic of the government's current communications issue, you must be able to se that. I am sure that you are grateful that you were a strong supporter of the SCU and that it can't be shown that your opinions swing in the wind of whatever direction SF are heading.

What is interesting though, is that criticism is limited to communications issues. While communications are important, in a pandemic it is much more important to get the substantive issues right, so I am sure you support the delay to indoor dining.

Leo the Liar getting called out by Verona Murphy in relation to locking down of Christenings, Communions etc.

Holohan stated quite definitely that he did not recommend this despite Leo saying he did only earlier.

In the middle of a pandemic and people are focussing on who said what about communions and confirmations. Only in Ireland......

Good man Blanch. Seeing no issue with FFG shutting down society on a whim. And blaming the CMO at the same time.

Would you expect anything else? But I bet it would the opposite position if it was not an FFG government.

Michael under questioning and in order not to answer the question, says 'I am not going to breech cabinet confidentiality'. :):)

The cabinet meetings of FG or FF have better outside coverage than the All Ireland final ffs.

And Leo digging in on his lie saying the christenings etc were never going ahead anyway and the Primate of All Ireland having a letter in front of him from the Taoiseach's office stating the complete opposite.

You couldn't make this sh1t up.

    What a silly post.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/0701/1232422-who-covid-spread/

"The World Health Organization (WHO) has said Covid cases were on the rise again in Europe after two months of decline and warned a new wave would come "unless we remain disciplined.""

So we have NPHET, WHO and the Government on the one side urging caution, and we have SF and others wanting unvaccinated young people to be able to drink indoors on the other. Stunning behaviour from them. Oh, and Alan Kelly who has forgotten his previous Zero Covid stance.

"Kluge said that the average vaccine coverage in the WHO's European region was 24%, and half of elderly people and 40% of healthcare workers were still unprotected."

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/0701/1232408-covid-blog/

"HSE CEO @paulreiddublin says 67% of the population have been given a first dose of Covid-19 vaccination, and 45% are fully vaccinated."

Looks like we are performing well above the EU average there, too.

So it seems that the clear unequivocal medical advice is get people vaccinated as quickly as possible and be careful on lifting measures, and this is what the Government is doing.

But sure, the communications should be better, but if you ask me, I prefer to be alive with bad communications than dead and being efficiently told I am gone!!!
