    Homophobia? Nonsense.

I note that he's decided to keep his and Matt's life details private. I've yet to come across a politician who gushes on social media about their partner/spouse and the contents of their refrigerator.

Perhaps now he will have more time to focus on the homeless problems in this country or the rampant crime in the cities.

Your obsession with Leo and Kylie is interesting.

What is so upsetting about someone writing a letter to Kylie Minogue?

Can see upheaval in Ryan’s circus, based on these numbers:

That's actually the first time I've seen/read the actual letter and aside from it being on official paper and him referencing specifically that he's the Taoiseach/PM to try and curry favour/support for his suggestion, it's just embarrassingly cringe worthy.. As if it was written by a teenage fan, not the leader of the country!

But then, Leo's numerous gaffes and demonstration of poor judgement over the years suggests a serious lack of maturity anyway - movie quotes during a crisis, going off for a gig abroad when the rest of the country is restricted, him and his partner embarrassing themselves when representing the State in the UK etc etc.

Don't feel any need to reply to this though Blanch. Your blind defence of all things FG and Varadkar no matter what they do is as tiresome as it is predictable at this stage.

The Indo's front page poll today has the Greens likely to return 1 seat based on current numbers. Thats some achievement.

Still think there are a couple of more options for the present coalition to get back in with maybe one group to help .I wonder would FF take the chance on going in as the junior partner of SF .If they did then when the inevitable happens when expectations are not met and people turn against the new government they may well have cut off a chance of going back in with FG and whoever .I don't expect SF to remain that popular over time with Irish voters usually voting in or around the middle ground on things .

What’s even more amazing is the hold they have on the other 2. You really couldn’t make this up.

And they are led by a clown who comes up with this:

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,835 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

It was the same last time they were in Government. Their influence was massively disproportionate to their support and all they really achieved was to mess up the motor tax system and push everyone into buying diesels which this time out they are now punishing them for.

That and propping up an increasingly unpopular Government that seems to not only be standing by while the country falls apart, but seems to be trying to hasten it along ("soft landings", bailouts, and IMF intervention last time - spiralling costs of living, housing crisis, and immigration policies this time).

All of this has happened before. It's no surprise that's it's happening again. Our biggest problem is that we are desperately starved of real alternatives but that's discouraged anyway by both the political system/media establishment, and the lack of interest by much of the population anyway - which is why the status quo has continued as long as it has.

Ryan cannot lead the Greens into the GE. That much is clear. Catherine Martin was and still is disappointing in the RTE fiasco.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,648 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

Measurement of support for small parties is notoriously unreliable. Greens aren't wired like other parties for continuous government. Policy implementation, particularly unpopular ones that improve the environment are their aim. If they are strong in every second Dail, that is enough.

    Country is falling apart?????

Take a look out the window, have a look up North, across the sea to the UK, or to the rest of the EU, and you will be very happy with your lot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,763 ✭✭✭antimatterx

Country is pretty good tbh. There's always room for improvement, but there always will be.

  • So our beloved Tánaiste has travelled to Israel and while there he has;

    • Refused to condemn de Valera's condolences on the death of Hitler.
    • Shook hands with an Israeli warmonger who not only hates Palestinians but now wants Africans removed from Israel.
    • Pleaded with Hamas to work for peace while saying f*ck all to the war criminal he just shook hands with.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,675 ✭✭✭An Claidheamh

To be far, DeValera gave condolences to Germany as was protocol,

was his way of refusing to be bullied by Churchill, another war mongerer, who a few years previously was planning to invade Ireland, just how Hitler invaded Central and Eastern Europe

Do others complain about condolences given to the UK for the latter?

But yeah, a bit predictable blaming Hamas, not sure what he is doing in the Middle East to be honest

  • Churchill and the Brits were never going to try invade and conquer the rest of Ireland during nor after the war.

Churchill knew where his bread was buttered and Ireland was actively assisting the allies. Not often I defend de Valera but I suspect he knew Churchill's promise of a 32 county Republic, given his virulent hatred of the Irish, was an act of desperation. This was in 1940 just after the Nazis invaded France and the Allies were on the backfoot.

As soon as WWII was over de Valera should have shut up. Don't send condolences to Hitler and don't send condolences to Churchill.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,675 ✭✭✭An Claidheamh

Remember Dev and Co were on the receiving end of threatening telegrams from an anti-Irish violent imperialist who spread lies worldwide and threatened to destroy Irish peace and democracy by placing Ireland under an Orange dictatorship - “arming 100,00 Orangemen” to March south I believe was his half baked plan

Churchill regarded Ireland, same as Hitler regarded the post WEI self-determined countries - as not having the right to exist

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,979 ✭✭✭Blut2

Churchill's many many faults are irrelevant, thats pure whataboutism.

In April 1945, at point when WW2 was very clearly over, it was absolutely insane to send condolences to Nazi Germany for both moral (enough evidence of the holocaust had come out by that stage) and practical (all you're going to do is piss off the Allies, who you really need on your side as a poor, small, country going forwards) reasons.

    Like I said.

Pathetic, juvenile rubbish on your part with more than a hint of homophobia.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭Risteard81

He should be promoting a one-state Palestine from the river to the sea. There is no lawful "Israel".

The deeper you keep your head in the sand the more painful the kick in your ass.

    Stop defending the indefensible.

  • The Yanks recognised Ireland in 1924.

At no point after that were the British, Churchill or otherwise, going to invade the rest of Ireland.

And I'm only talk about the Yanks, Ireland had plenty of support from around the world.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,641 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Oh, an internet tough guy, they're the best kind.

Pretty much guarantee, that to€&er would not look at the floor rather than speak trash about relics to a Traveller, or indeed, at all criticise fundamental Protestantism

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,128 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Did anyone hear McEntee this morning or even Chambers yesterday on the speed limit legislation? Absolutely useless and clueless. They were asked whether the legislation would be ready by end of 2024 - no clue. Just waffle and platitudes about all the road deaths. Embarrassing. They make creating legislation sound like creating gold from lead. Don't come up with a plan until you have a plan. We are so badly served.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,641 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

The deep analysis of this policy change went something like this:

"We need to be seen to do something"

    "This is something"

    "Let's do it"

I wouldn't trust Chambers to tie his own shoelaces.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

this is head in sand stuff. no housing. high rents. health service in taters. high tax. where are you people living that the 'Country is pretty good tbh'? As for taking a look elsewhere - is this how we operate now? lets be just a little bit less **** than the next country? high standards 😂 .

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,068 ✭✭✭Murph85

We aren't getting a giveaway budget, less is allocated for income tax cuts this year, than last year... the " cuts" don't even keep pace with inflation .

If there was one party that put the taxpayer first , lol... it would out ffg in a serious predicament

AFAIK the term giveaway budget usually refers to one with major increases in public spending, and I'm pretty sure we'll be getting that...
