Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hospital food has to be low sugar, low salt, not spicy, not too hot, no bones, no non tenderised parts. Basically just short of blended for the worst off of patients.

In other words, its always gonna be shyte. Its fuel, eat it and shut up.

I r been in and out for months over the years in Beacon... the only thing I will say positive about the place is that the food is very palatable even after very major surgery.

I've heard the same. Private hospitals seem to have a higher standard in this area at least.

Not quite sure, but the doctors themselves have to eat the same muck... only they generally order in takeaways etc.

Maybe we could get that Ballymaloo trained evil, evil chap out on day release to cook for the patients?

Its at times like this listening to this stuff and all morning on the radio about women and lads comin out of penneys with their bags of knickers and drawers that I wonder why the men and women of 1916 bothered their holes gettin out of bed that fateful morning

    Guaranteed in Vincent's.

How do you eat chewing gum? It's just not good enough. It's not hard to produce basic food to a decent standard. Vincent's especially needs to sort this out.

This is not really doing to dispel that "professional patients" stereotype that docs and nurses sometimes say about CF patients very high standards, let's put it that way.

    You're absolutely right....

...but the term frontline workers has lost all meaning at this stage with his it's been thrown around.

The per meal cost is likely more than the local pub carvary.

The medical staff know it's inedible, they talk about it all the time. It's revolting.

Nutrition is hugely important in CF patients.

And add another 50% when you count the pension!

Just because people are worse off elsewhere doesn't mean we should accept third rate standards here. As an aside, if India spent more on medical facilities than its nuclear weapons programme they might not be in such a dire situation.

Its quite clear that many people here don't give a damn about the issue.
Eventually you will spend a few nights in hospital yourselves. I hope you don't complain....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,270 ✭✭✭✭BPKS

Luckily we have not been in hospital for years. But when my kids got sick when they were smaller, the food in the hospital was amazing. I used eat half of it. Then again they were charging VHI something like €900 a night for B&B so it would want to be good.

I used to be sick and tired of all of the fruit when I was in hospital.
You obviously haven't got the right visitors caller.

In the Beacon you get fresh fruit salad every day plus a nice scone, croissant, a doughnut once a week, profiteroles once a week, a lovely Sunday roast, really nice tasty stuff.

I've spent many nights in hospitals and even back then, there were moaners and fussy eaters who looked down their noses at the grub.

I thought they now had some very expensive wonder drugs that were supposed to keep them out of hospital altogether?
