    Poor penalty Dave

But someone had to miss eventually I suppose.
Didn't produce enough in the 90 minutes.

Villareal were playing for pens from around the 55th minute and were always favourites in the shootout

De Gea doesn't dive for penaltys he just kind of falls if he springs more he'd have gotten to at least one of those. Damn shame but the lack of subs really cost us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,370 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Sack ole please. A pathetic attempt at management.

No attempt to change the game, played for penalties from 80 mins on.

    Absolutely pathetic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

    And that's that.

Penalties cannot be faulted in fairness.

But the Managers handling of subs contributed hugely to that loss.

    Nothing else to say really.

Dave was sh1te but Solksjaer crafted this situation and he's in charge because we're run by people who don't give a fvck about the club.

Vicious circle and it goes on and on.

Never looked like winning it, no trophy yet ole who is simply not good enough for man utd. Seriously do people expect us to challenge next season with clown in charge

Here's hoping Ole manages to get 3 good signings this summer for whoever takes over in 6-12 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,098 ✭✭✭Jofspring

    How?

Awful attempts at saving them, poor body language even when making a dive and then takes a shocker himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,131 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Can't blame the keeper for missing the penalty in fairness. Too many passengers on the night especially Pogba, Rashford & Bruno.

Never looked like saving one and certainly didn’t look like scoring either.

I’m probably being harsh but was wondering if Ole would have pulled a LVG and put on Henderson for penalties.

Henderson has saved 8 penalties since DeGea last saved one.

This. ****ing awful and cowardly display of tactics and game management by Ole.

Just like the quarter final last year, it was crying out for someone like Mata and he sat unused for 120 minutes.

We're not winning titles with him. Just aren't. Back to scrambling for top 4 as Liverpool and Chelsea are not going to stand still.

De Gea carried the team for about 5 years so I've no problem with him. It shouldn't have got to that stage

    An absolute shocker from Solskjaer

Ah jaysus just put your foot through the ball Dave.

Some great penos before it but we were always gonna lose I’d it went to penos.

A sad and disappointing night for the club.

A huge reality check of the capabilities of the squad and the manager.

Emery did an absolute number on Ole and he froze.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,929 ✭✭✭KH25

Should have won that within 90 minutes instead of holding back the subs for penalties. With fresh legs I think we score a second goal. Poor management from
    Ole.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,054 ✭✭✭wanderer100

I think that's the end of De Gea's career at United. Devastated :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,173 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

We were never winning a shoot out with De Gea.

He barely tries to save them at the best times so no Villareal taker had any pressure.

May well have been worth subbing in Henderson.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,979 ✭✭✭BenK

Not that it was necessary but the game again highlights how far from the top end of the game United really are at the moment. 2nd in the league but miles away from challenging for the major honours. Unless major recruitment happens in the summer (it won't) we'll be scrambling for 4th at best again.

That's very, very harsh. No way he should be the one it comes down to in a shootout.

VR were woeful all game and utd didn't put them away. I really thought that would end up 3 or 4-1 to utd after they score.

Can't believe anyone would blame a keeper for missing a peno

Well done to Villareal, had a feeling that penalties was risky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,199 ✭✭✭artvanderlay

He took off Greenwood who had the most thrust of any of the frontmen, left Rashford on to do f*ck all. Pogba does nothing, short passes in the middle of the park then runs forward, looking back as united lose possession. I'm actually sick of the sight of De Gea. Weird looking, puny bollix. Get a proper keeper. We have some decent players, but our weak links cost us.

Cannot and will not fault De Gea for losing this tie.

Squarely on the shoulders of Ole and some of our big names who didn't perform.

A keeper who not too long ago was seen as the best in the world can't stop one penalty against a side who without winning tonight would be in the UEFA conference next year.

His miss isn't the issue, it's his inability to stop any I have a problem with.

Ah here he wasn't great during penaltys but he's a club legend and was our best player for years less of the **** talking him

Thanks for everything Ole and Dave, it's been emotional..

Zidane, Conte and possibly Poch are now on the market, let's kick on and start winning **** with some nice groundwork done by a manager out of his depth.

350k a week and you don't think he should have at least been making better attempts than that in a final?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

I'm gutted for De Gea lads.

He's one of the best servants of the last decade and now he's getting abuse when we should be beating Villareal over 120 minutes!!!

Villareal were the better side for 75 minutes. We were better in the 2nd half. That's on the manager.

This. Anyone can miss a penalty - if Cavani or Greenwood missed would it be the same conversation? Don’t see how a lad missing a penalty is the scapegoat for A poor performance all around, big players didn’t turn up at all. Have been out of form for a while now.

I think that's the end of De Gea's career at United. Devastated :o

Do one. Real fans will rally round him. Not his fault at all. We should have won it in the second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,504 ✭✭✭Masala

All he had to do was boot it down the middle. Both keepers dived for all pens... so it was going to be a dead cert

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,118 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Devastating for the keeper to be the one to miss and cost the game and utterly cruel that keepers are expected to take them.

Emery came with a clear plan and they got their reward, its not pretty but its effective.

Rashford and Pogba were Disgraceful tonight. Bruno was very very poor. No substitutions til into extra time is disgusting, absolutely disgusting.

Ole has proven time and again that he is a weak manager and its never been as utterly illustrated as it was tonight.

    Pathetic, fcuking pathetic.

Sick... for such a good shot stopper he's beyond bad for pens, mostly drops on his left knee. If he literally stood for 2 of them he'd have been in the way and saved them. We only had one poor pen prior to his one, Luke got lucky with his. I'm disappointed but at least the vultures Glazers are not celebrating, small mercies.
