Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Thank God.

It was all a bit sad. So far removed from what a lot of us grew up watching. A lot has changed and made it more commercial...far more commercial and a lot of points made about how it was a logical step from the changes in the last 20-odd years.

But it felt like it was a massive step over the line. Watching the ESL would have left me cold.

I'm delighted that sense has been seen. I don't think it has gone away though. Maybe Perez and his ilk will realise that unsustainable business is unsustainable. I won't hold my breath.

But for now I'm happy with the very public opposition to it from players and even from the like of Guardiola.

Nowhere near the end of it.

Will be interesting to see what actions are taken now. Not only by the FA, Uefa and UK government but also by the club and Glazers.

What an absolutely bizarre crazy period.

And hopefully the start of the Glazers.

The announcement on the website is pretty pathetic too but not surprising.
Manchester United will not be participating in the European Super League.

We have listened carefully to the reaction from our fans, the UK government and other key stakeholders.

We remain committed to working with others across the football community to come up with sustainable solutions to the long-term challenges facing the game.

Its pathetic. They should make a public apology to begin with and then sell the club.

I’d expect more of a statement and PR spin in the next 24 hours. Seems that the meeting of clubs ended and everyone scrambled to throw out a statement of some sort, with the main instigators having less of one prepared before hand. Just had to get something out simultaneously.

I reckon we either get stories of the Glazers selling, or links to Sancho/Haaland/Ronaldo to distract us pretty quick.

Have a voicemail wishing me a happy birthday and a friend saying “I’d say thus is the best birthday ever, with Woodward getting the boot and the glazers under fire”.

It’s not just here that I complain incessantly about them. That said, I have to reflect on that, it’s not healthy.

Good news for football in general that this proposal is dead in the water.

I expect clubs will now seek to blame execs or consultants claiming they were misguided.

The 6 involved will now want to 'win' the fans back..expect promises of big signings

Hound them out and change the rules to 50+1.

Look at Bayern and Dortmund , fans chose not to join because the fans had a voice.

    Good on him.

Glad he's not weakened his sentiment on them since it became clear that the ESL was falling apart and Woodward is leaving.

A fantastic day for the club, but it's only 2 out of 3. I hope our fanbase don't settle for that.

Glazers gotta go. It's now or never.

According to sky. Manchester United state they withdrew after listening to fans and government.
    What total horse siht.

Woodward going is brilliant but only the first step, I said yesterday what I thought about him being sacrificed.
The premier league, fifa and UEFA must have the balls now to punish the real culprits. This is the problem they have now, how do you punish the scumbags of owners without punishing the players.

    GLAZIERS OUT.

There’s no scenario where you punish the owners without it adversely effecting the club.

Could they declare all individuals involved as an unfit person to be involved in running a club?

Just seen the press release from the ESL itself saying they will continue to look at reforming European football.

It feels to me like it was the semi - closed nature of the league and the potential of it being a stepping stone for further undesirable change that really was the deal breaker for most fans and players.

I think they have very specific rules around that so not sure they can do that. They definitely need to be punished in some way.

The FA won't want to be seen punishing clubs in general as basically they would be punishing the players who fought back for them in that case.

I'm really not sure how they will move forward here, it will be interesting to see

Would be a bit funny if Everton, West Ham, Newcastle, Villa, Leicester and Leeds announced they were now in talks to join instead.

Hard to know if any punishment will come, punishing the owners financially with fines for example will just result in money being siphoned from the clubs.

At best, the FA will update their contracts prohibiting forming of breakaway leagues or competitions without due process.

That's already a rule in the Premier League rulebook. Clubs can't play in any competitions outside the UEFA competitions, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.

For me also, has really come out of all this looking like a leader in the dressing room. Shaw too..

I'm not going to say that about Fernandes as we all know that about him.

It's gas though. If this was properly planned it may have been a runner i.e engaging with all stakeholders on the proposal. A proper consultation process. It was the rushing through and the decision to just go with it that was the downfall. It should be used as a lesson learned as to how not to implement a project or programme. I don't think we have heard the end of it though. A ESL is inevitable.

I think it is going to be a massively interesting few months for United.

With the collapse of the ESL and Woodward announcing he is stepping down (and was planning to, which I do believe is the case) I think we are going to see the club sold.

I think the Glazers will be actively looking to sell the club, with the sale and transition being the priority of Woodward before stepping down, with the new CEO being put in place by the new owners, whomever they turn out to be.

I also think there is a good chance Glazers would have sold if the ESL had gone through, but for a lot more than they will get now - but either way I don't see Glazers sticking around. they aren't in it to win or for prestige, and I don't think there is another scenario in the near future that could see a value bump like the ESL would have been.

No point in me speculating who the new owners could be, I have zero idea, but despite the numbers that will be needed I do think there will be plenty of interest in United.

    Well yes and no.

They didn't have agreement. but they had also not played in the ESL.

Their plan would have been to get agreement from all parties in the end, becuase the ESL couldn't exist without that agreement.

They would not have played in the ESL without that agreement.

the Arsenal statement also contained an apology - it's not much but it's more than United's did.

Ceferin was sounding conciliatory yesterday so there may not be any punishment, but expect to see a tightening up on the rules so clubs can be punished/expelled immediately the next time something like this comes up.

what a farce this has been.
