Any word from various grounds on potential reopening, I thought they’d be eligible to do so under lifting activity restrictions from the 26th April?

Hilltop in Wicklow are reopening on the 28th April.

Dunno about Midlands or Harbour House, but until they lift the county restrictions it's a moot point for me anyway.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

S.I. No. 187/1972 - Firearms (Temporary Custody) Order - Firearms seized

S.I. No. 21/2008 - Firearms (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008 - Firearm types restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 - Firearms banned & grandfathered

S.I. No. 420/2019 - Magazine ban, ammo storage & transport restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 - 2023 Firearm Ban (retroactive to 8 years prior)

I thought they were open, just people couldn't get to them due to the 5k nonsense. However now that its inter-county they should be opening back up if not already open. Nothing "official" so far that i can find.

    Correct.

New Windows update has spell check but it auto corrects so i obviously typed closer to inter than intra and it changed it to inter.

    Travel within county.

    Hows that? :D

Just seen this on their FB page:

    Range Opening
The MNSCI ranges are opened on Tuesday 27th of April and will be compliant with the COVID Restrictions that are in place.
There is plenty of room on the ranges and we can easily keep the social distance rules etc. Clubhouse remains closed, however you can swipe your membership card for registration at the front entrance of clubhouse. If you forget your card you must still register your time of visit on the registration forms provided at the front door of clubhouse.Registrations are inspected by the Gardai.
Unfortunately the travel restrictions are still not favourable for our Sport.
ie You can travel within your own county or within 20 km of you home.
If you are involved in vermin control and in need of zeroing your firearm etc and you are outside the travel distance I would advise you check with Gardai first before travelling to Range. We will do everything possible to facilitate you.
Non members of the MNSCI who can comply with the travel restrictions to use the MNSCI ranges and cannot travel to their own Range are welcomed to use MNSCI ranges throughout this restriction.
Please remember to book your visit by text to JP on 086 8232641 the Time,Date, and ranges you wish to use and confirmation will be given by a return text.
We look forward to seeing you all and hopefully the COVID restrictions will be more favourable for travel and for our Sport very soon .

I see only Range 1 and 2 are being used for now, with Range 4 open if needed.
I'll be on Range 2 with the CZ and plenty of ammo (500 rounds :) )

I see the Midlands is open from Tuesday 27th next week. I'll see if I can get there first.
BUT I have the bathroom to floor and wall tile in the meantime, down to the joists ATM.

Do the travel restrictions not count for traveling to a range or have I missed something?

  • Registered Users Posts: 806 ✭✭✭tonysopprano

If you live in the same county as the range or if your house is within 20km, if you have to cross a county border, then you are ok. If you live further away or in another county then you are screwed. Some of the notifications from the various ranges state that the authorities are checking attendance records (no doubt to object to renewals or to revoke licences, if you travel 1km too far)

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

That's what I thought. Going to join a range once this lockdown crap is sorted and return to some clay busting.

In my opinion and after having a quick chat with a Garda friend.
If you shoot vermin for a farmer you are classed as an essetial worker. Therefore you must be able to check zero on your firearm. You can only check zero at the range.
Therefore you have to travel to the range, which may involve crossing County lines.
Just have your written permission from your farmer and a message back from the range operator to say you can use the range with you.
And I also have the page printed off from the Garda website that states that I am classed as an essetial worker shooting vermin.

    Interesting. Thanks.

That's only my thoughts on things. Could depend on each range as to if you could go or not.
I now see that page on the Garda website has gone.
