Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any idea why? New show some where else?

The way things change over the years as one trio has stuck in my head Dermot Dave and Siobhan and sadly missed.

Adrian reading out a statement confirming it now on air.

Best news I’ve heard, Adrian is appalling as a presenter

Show is being dropped entirely for an all music format.

Sounds like a cutback rather than they've been poached so.

Should like a cutback rather than they've been poached so.

Its pretty clear from the wording that they've not been poached, cutback is a possible reason as is that the format is dated and past it.

    They’re moving to another station

The missus would listen to it every morning. Very much a Jeremy Kyle lite on the radio. A divisive style of debate full of hyperbole. I won't miss it.

I wonder if they'll be returning to FM104...

Will they have an evening talk show instead? How will they meet their current affairs Quota?

Perhaps they could buy in some podcasts, very cheap way to cover the quota, assuming that would be allowed as current afairs.

Ah ffs. I regularly listened to Adrian and Jeremy when I had coverage up that neck of the woods

Adrian and Jeremy If you are reading this

    Do a podcast

You could easily be as big as the likes of the dunphy one.

Remember the phone in these lads used to have about 10 years ago. Same heads ringing in every night.

Would start off with some outrageous scenario in order to get people to ring in initially. The person with the most offensive/against the grain opinion would be left on the line the longest whilst outraged listeners lined up to tell them they were a disgrace.

I remember my housemate rang up one eve to specifically ask if a particular caller, Joan I think it was, whether she was a plant. Needless to say he was cut off on a time delay and dead air was filled by Adrian and Jeremy explaining that "they cannot have that kind of talk on air" Open endedly insinuating he'd made some kind of outrageous statement that could be offensive 😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,439 ✭✭✭tupenny

    Ha yes, Joan!
    Jude was another "regular"

Longer news bulletins probably. Do they currently have evening news bulletins? They'll be reintroduced if not.

Their "Adrian Kennedy & Jeremy Dixon" Facebook page seems to have been deleted. That page had a lot of activity and followers, and was originally set up following their departure from FM104, it wasn't 98FM branded. Seems rather counterintuitive deleting it if they're looking to maintain the following they have.

It was deleted about five minutes after they announced their departure and whilst the show was still on air.

Very good riddance. Kennedy makes Stalin seem like a reasonable guy.

I’m listening to Adrian & Jeremy for years now from FM104 at night to 98FM in the morning, I enjoy the banter between the lads, Hopefully it won’t be to long before they are back on air. For presenters loosing their jobs they didn’t sound to upset today I’d say they know more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,237 ✭✭✭Bellbottoms

I didn't realise they were still on the go. Kennedy has been doing the same show on one station or another for 25 years.

Is Chris Barry still on East Coast FM?

When was Chris Barry with East Coast FM? I know he was with Capital Radio/Rock104/FM104, 98FM and Sunshine 106.8. He also came back to FM104 for a little while, having been away from it for some years. Along the way, he was involved with temporary licensed stations Christmas FM, 949 The Rock and Real Radio.

But it's the first I heard of his involvement with East Coast FM. Although, at one stage, it was in the same building as 106.8. I'm not sure if it was in the same building when he was with the latter, but it's possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,854 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

I for one won’t have any reason to tune into 98fm now that Adrian and Jeremy have been cancelled

In the days of streaming and Spotify etc I don’t understand why 98 think if they go to music only it will be a success

Adrian and Jeremy had a unique show and built up a lot of loyal followers over the years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,784 ✭✭✭KungPao

I think the last time I listened to Adrian there was an aul lad going off on one about anal sex being immoral, and that the sphincter WILL be damaged and the receiver will end up wearing nappies.

Do people still call him “Chris”?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,185 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

As it happens, Adrian Kennedy was with Wicklow's East Coast Radio/East Coast FM, before FM104 and 98FM. Maybe Bellbottoms was mixing up Chris Barry with Adrian Kennedy: both did very similar shows in different periods on FM104 and 98FM. East Coast Radio was a merger between the north Wicklow station Horizon Radio and the south Wicklow station Easi103. Adrian was with Horizon. Like a lot of the early presenters on Horizon, he came via the pirate BLB (Bray Local Broadcasting).

I had to stop getting the groceries in a spar in Ranelagh village because they played Adrian and Jeremy every evening after work. That was the only time I ever heard this duo. The spar eventually went out of business. Now I'm not saying there is a connection, but there is a connection.

Absolute bottom dwelling crap. It's no loss to the airwaves. I'd prefer to see one or two presenters who don't just appeal to the outrage mob and lowest common denominator 'hot takes'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭Santan

I'm starting to feel bad now, I happened across them on the go loud app at the start of the first lockdown, I found them just nice and easy listening talk radio for the most part. Never took it too seriously, usually have newstalk on or the wife has today fm on, but I mostly enjoyed the silly Dublin outrage in the mornings, I will miss it now in the mornings anyway, now just another station playing exactly the same music all be it just a few minutes apart.

This is quite telling because they would have been able to delete all of their 98fm content in one go as Facebook has a feature which allows users to delete all their posts at the click of a tab. As you said, that page was theirs so I don't get why they deleted it. Are they going their separate ways?

He goes by Jude on Niall Boylans show and Joan is regularly on there too as herself,

Getting back to the topic, I used to like Adrian and Jeremy when I was 20, 18 years ago, can't stand either of them now, especially that Dixon fella, he's the radio version of a computer keyboard warrior.

  • Registered Users Posts: 789 ✭✭✭Big Gerry

I use to love Adrian's show when it was on in the evening it was like a guilty pleasure for me.

But I always thought putting that kind of show on in the morning was destined to fail because the show would have to be toned down and many of the characters you get on evening show would not be up that early.

I'm surprised the morning show lasted as long as it did.

I know it's standard practice with these decisions to give almost zero notice to the listeners but I'm wondering does that also apply to the presenters? Do they know a few weeks in advance or are they also given little notice? I assume they're self employed contractors so could theoretically be axed with little notice.

No, he's not Jude. He and Jude were regular callers to Adrian's night time show on Fm104 back in the day. "Zoltan/John" wasn't a troll though. I think he lived in Drimnagh and regularly rang in to the show. He was well spoken and quite intelligent.

I would imagine Bauer recognise that this type of imported American tripe is long past its sell by date. As for meeting the ridiculous talk quota imposed on music stations, all they need do is cry the poor mouth to the BAI who will roll over as per usual.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 14,463 Mod ✭✭✭✭marno21

I wonder is this the start of Bauer shoring up their stations.

Imagine going to London and hearing a talk in show thrown in mid mornings on Heart or Smooth FM.

If Bauer are anything like the UK they will focus on music on a music station and I can't see the BAI objecting a whole pile in this environment.

I'm fairly sure he worked for our nations postal provider. 100% a real person, possibly a wind up merchant.

I used to listen to it every night back when he took over from Chris Barry in about 97 or so. I had a little handheld radio that I'd listen to after everyone went to bed. Was probably only about 12 or 13 at the time.

Oh right, just sounded very similar to Jude, as he is also wheelchair bound and hates Dubliners and people on welfare etc, he's also well spoken and comes across as intelligent

Yeah fair point. Hadn’t thought of that but you are right, the “target” caller for the show wouldn’t have been up too early or “in the form” for ringing in early in the day

Have fond memories of Adrian reading the headlines of the evening herald and then later in the show the headlines of the papers for the following morning, along with his analysis of the news

A sharp mind that people under estimated at their own risk

When I was working as a bar man I had to get taxis home at all hours and the taxi would almost always have Adrian Kennedy show on - less so with the non national taxi men admittedly

But the Irish taxi men loved the show. 1 taxi man described it to me as “the taxi industry’s RTÉ” as Adrian’s show would give taxi men the right to speak and raise issues important to them

Vividly remember him saying that to me near the tesco on baggot st years ago

I would go further and say it was the late night workers RTÉ

I’ll never forget that and I hope Adrian and Jeremy are rightly proud of that.

On the other hand RTÉ wouldn’t p1ss on the working class taxi men if they were on fire ....

Their late night schedule consisted of boring repeats

I don’t get the Jeremy digs from other boardsies

Jeremy was a great side kick/foil to Adrian. Half the time he was simply on a wind up looking for a reaction from Adrian and the audience. And by god would he get a reaction!!

    Lads, do a podcast seriously

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 the_real_one

The lads spoke to the Mirror newspaper. With regards to what they're doing next, Jeremy says "Our aim is to be up and running in the next three weeks". Is it going to be with another radio station I wonder or are they going down the podcast route? Whatever the format, I'm looking forward to it. Best of luck lads.
