Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BBC 4 on Eutelsat

I used to pick up BBC 4 on Eutelsat until the last couple of years when it dropped out along with SKY News and one or two other stations.

Should I reset the dish and retune or have those stations gone for good on Eutelsat ?(Eutelsat 7a is what my receiver calls the satellite)

I can't seem to get Astra 28.2 and I suspect it may be a line-of -sight issue.....

I would be inclined to try the Astra satellites at 28.2E.
You can use these calculators to get the alignment right.

I have been trying to get that for the past 2/3 years :)

I have just had the dawning realization that a nearish-by tree inconsiderately grew a bit taller and blocked the signal.

When I use the satellite finder I get a very very occasional buzzer but it won't hold and I think it may well be this tall tree.

If I could get BBC4 on the Eutelsat satellite I could forget about the Astra 28.2 signal but that is my problem .

I don't know whether it is actually there and I just need a fine tune of the dish or whether it is no longer there, (I get all the other BBC stations and loads of other FTA stations but not the BBC4 - which I miss)

BBC Four is on the air from 7 pm until 4 am. Other times the programme will be CBeebies. There is a SD and a HD version of BBC Four on two different frequencies, and both those transponders carry other BBC channels as well.

    I can't get the 28.2 degrees satellite.....

I would like to get it on the Eutelsat 7A satellite ,but don't know if it is available there since I can receive (on the Eutelsat 7A ) most all of the other FTA's but not BBC4

What satellite are you getting the other BBC stations on? They are not on 7A.

Is that not 28 east, no matter what your receiver calls it? Name some of the 'loads of other' channels & the freqs. they're on.

As someone above mentioned, don't try and scan for BBC4 until after 7pm, it simply won't show up at all. I suspect that actually your dish is pointed at Astra 28.2E despite what your receiver's display is showing.

My receiver is telling my that I am on Eutelsat 7A (7 degrees East) and I am getting nearly all of the FTA channels including the BBC (but not BBC4)

    Could my receiver be misreporting?

Eutelsat 7A doesn't appear in any recent satellite list I can find. Satellites get decommissioned, removed and renamed all the time, so it's possible that your receiver's software and/or transponder lists need a good update. There are two Eutelsat satellites at 7E, Eutelsat 7B and 7C, neither of which carries any of the normal UK FTA channels.

No 'could' about it; there's nothing BBC FTA or anything much English language except 28 east.

Bear in mind that the direction the signal is coming from isn't in a direct line parallel to the centre line of the dish but from much higher in the sky, so things can be a bit deceptive. If you're picking up the other FTA stations the dish is aligned OK.

Well ,if I am actually getting Astra 28.2 (even though the receiver is telling me otherwise- and actually shows Astra 2 on 28.2 as zero quality on the signal with no channels having been downloaded), does that tell me that the stations I am not getting (BBC 4 ,sky NEWS plus a few others) are missing because the aerial was not well enough aligned when I last searched for channels?

Might they return if I try again? (I was frightened to try that .....)

Sure ,it is hard to gauge where the blighter in the sky actually is-especially if the installation is a bit old and wobbly (the dish I mean:) )

When doing the set up, you probably have a list of satellites to choose from.
Maybe the incorrect satellite was chosen when doing the setup which might explain why you believe the dish is pointed at other than Astra 28.2E.

Different satellites often share the same transponder frequencies, so even if you have the wrong satellite selected it's possible that some of the channels you're interested in happen to be carried on one of the frequencies in the incorrect satellite's list if you get what I mean. Over time stations move from one transponder frequency to another and you can lose them.

Sounds like what you need to do is to update your receiver's transponder list, select Astra 28.2E and do a complete rescan.

You are getting 28 east. Your missing channels could be due to poor signal, or the receiver not searching the correct frequencies.

    OK , thanks to everyone:)

If you enter your address into this site and select 28.2E astra as the satellite it will show you the exact direction to the satellite. There is also a function for you to check the height clearance from any obstructions such as trees or other buildings.
You can click and drag the green marker to the exact location of your dish to fine tune it.

Ah ,I got ya.BBC4 had been showing up as CBeebies and I deleted it unthinkingly .

.When I just did a rescan and it popped back up again I realized /remembered it was actually also BBC4 and so I have it again.

Thanks for jogging the auld memory:pac:

Can you say make and model of receiver and that may aid us in giving a bit more information.

It is a BORC HD DVB-S2 PVR Satellite Receiver
    https://borc.eu/products/

A little way down the page.

Don't have the exact model # ;it is a few years old now but they told me I can use the Borc HDS41 Latest Firmware on that same site.
