If Mr Poots is a member of good standing in the free presbyterian church he's also strictly teetotal and believes dancing is sinful (line dancing included). Bit like the Taleban, minus the tan and beard.

I was thinking more plot of Footloose,

Presumably as a way to win support, Poots going to mount a legal challenge to the NIP apparently...

    https://news.sky.com/story/amp/northern-ireland-agriculture-minister-threatens-legal-action-over-post-brexit-trading-12296883

Finally, they are going to pressure the British to solve it. As if he wins all that wull happen is the trade agreement goes down and we are back to the drawing board with the onus on the British to come up with a solution.

How much patience will London have one wonders.

Where is Trimble's NIP challenge currently?

Don't think it has gone anywhere yet. I fancy Poots is talking this up as a vote getter in the leadership race.
I see Jim Wells has been brought back into the fold today and given a leadership vote.

McBride says in the follow up tweet they are going after Pengelly too and a few top backroom boys. Big cleanout

Based on his view on line dancing alone, he's got my vote!

Apparently the bould Edwin is known to his (no doubt vast) circle of friends as 'Pootsy'. Perhaps he should follow the advice of his near namesake

Wonder what is his stance on unnecessary neo-natal and childhood circumcision of boys?
    Female genital mutilation of females?

Jesus it's a different jungle up in the North.

I don't care how well informed people get, nobody in the Republic will never truly understand it. Myself included. It's far more complex than it is portrayed.

    It's biblical and thus "good".

The women I've no idea, but as its not in the bible (AFAIK) I'd say they're against it.

For God’s sake bring me a large scotch. What a bloody awful country.

Not really, its easy to see which side is more sensible and reasonable. And then on the other side you have the British Taliban.

    'Silence and repel our opponents'.
'Expose republican propaganda and shameless populism'.
    'Extensive outreach to loyalists.'

Border poll gets a couple of mentions too.

Throughout the entire negotiations he had the look of an intelligent man who had to spend his day dealing with complete idiots.

Ide say he would want us kicked out of the EU if we try bring NI into a United Ireland ( Satire warning: not really for those here with no sense of humour)

Ah Pootsy as predictable as always. His objective is to take an innovative approach to leadership by charting a course back to a position of Unionist strength

I wonder what prompted them to single out that particular dance style for opprobium. Do they have a position on twerking? Grinding? Dabbing?

It's popular with the country and western set, which is wile poplar in Ulster among all hues so they'd have knowledge of it, and thus an automatic dislike of it.

"twerking? Grinding? Dabbing?" - They do indeed - sinful sexually provacative bodily displays that lead to sin. Seeing as line dancing had none of this, or touching etc some members of the free presbyterians reckoned this was ok. Dr Paisley was unimpressed and thats why he singled line dancing out.

So if Poots gets in and does mount this legal challenge against the NI protocol what will happen then? I can't see Johnson's gov going along with that. Can DUP simply be given the two fingers or do they have some leverage here?

If the Protocol goes then it is up to the British to come up with a solution again or the Trade Deal collapses.
