Interesting article on Donaldson here. Didn't know about this. Sounds like something that may resurface if he gets the gig.

Also the sort of stand up guy who gets a super injunction to stop us from finding out which specific flavour of adult entertainment he enjoys (and charges to his expenses) in his London hotel rooms.

Is there more information about this alleged incident? I wasn't aware of it until now.

Sir J has ramped up his bid apparently saying if elected he will cut all North/South discussions. it's a bit late in the day for this guy to try and become a hard man.

Did he give a half coherent Reason?

    God unionism is pathetic.

I guess it's because of the mess they are in as a result of brexit- which they pushed hard for in the first place!

Oh aye. But he won't say that. So I was interested in what excuse he would use?

Election is tomorrow, so time to up the rhetoric.

The fact the vote was so close shows how divided the DUP are....I see Paula Bradley got the deputy...she is at the opposite side to Poots!
If they go more unionist which they will under Poots...a lot of people will move to the alliance I would guess...good news! Or the UUP (meh news)

Best news for aspiring United Irelanders everywhere.

Poots is a outlier even in pan Unionist terms and I hope he repeats the mistakes of his predecessors and collapses Stormont so the Tories who don't care about them will continue to operate the Brexit agreements unilaterally and ultimately erode whats left of Unionist influence on basically everything.

As an anti Shinner also, any loss of SF profile in NI is only to be welcomed.

Looking forward to it...an ever present toxic influence on NI politics might eventually recede.

I suspect you will be sorely disappointed. Michelle O'Neill as the next first minister is most likely a foregone conclusion now.

Poots - an evolution denier will most likely result in the implosion of the DUPers, who now are much more likely to take the staunch path, than the more liberal one.

Unionism will fracture now to the benefit of the likes of the Alliance party I would guess. Shinners to be the biggest party by some distance after the next election up there would be my guess.

The opposite of a loss of profile.

Never underestimate the power of enough ranting about Themmuns in NI politics. Expect a strong front on the, 'a vote for anyone but us is a vote for SF' and DUP significantly outperforming the predicted collapse.

I'd agree with that analysis but would prefer an alliance DFM
Poots won't serve under a SF FM

    Surprised to be honest.

Cannot see Edwin doing what is required..uniting Unionism.

When have the DUP, when given the choice between outreach or seige mentality ever chosen the former?

One cannot be First Minister of a non-existent body.

The DUP and especially a DUP under Poots, will never participate in a NI Assembly with an SF FM. And considering that due to its founding mechanism, an NI Executive cannot sit without the participation of the largest Unionist party, there is essentially no chance of what you describe actually coming to pass.

Agree...but they now know what is required to have even an outside chance of avoiding further regression.
