Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So Donaldson up next? Or is Sammy gonna take a run at it?

    !
They really hate the Irish language!:pac:

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

The Entryism process: 1) Demand access; 2) Demand accommodation; 3) Demand a seat at the table; 4) Demand to run the table; 5) Demand to run the institution; 6) Run the institution to produce more activists and policy until they run it into the ground.

And assuming this makes the mainland news, the rest of the UK wil continue to look at Northern Ireland as an ungovernable mess, and long past casting off. With each action the DUP slide the province closer to a border poll, if only by it being pressurised by a Westminster long last caring. Not by much, but by the smallest of degrees.

    They're confirmed.

Unless Givan resigns there isn't really a way to remove him as far as I know.

The Assembly could remove him. Or, I think, if Michelle O'Neill resigns, his position ceases automatically.

Mind you, Jeffrey Donaldson would have some serious arse kissing to do to get the other parties to accommodate his election as FM, assuming he is anointed DUP leader.

In fact, I think an election is warranted now, immediately, to seek a new mandate for Government in the North, after all this political nonsense and the crystallisation of Brexit.

Truly strange sequence of events. Didn't have much regard for Foster. Felt she was out of her depth as FM. She should not have survived the heating scandal. Poots decision not to take the FM job was truly strange much like a lot of his beliefs. Their does seem to be a dearth of talent in the DUP in terms of leadership. This leaves the FM a lame duck surely. I do worry the implosion in the DUP may prompt a return to violence. There seems to be a lot of anger in Unionist circles over the practical implications of Brexit. Their backing of Brexit was clearly ill thought out.
These must be very worrying times for Unionism. They see from Johnson's manoeuvres that Britain doesn't give a toss about the union with NI. There is likely to be a SF FM in the near future. I can see reunification in the next 20 years. This surely must be a dawning reality for the more enlightened in Unionist political circles.

Givan's position is completely untenable. He has to go.

The DUP an absolute joke of a party. Eating themselves and imploding. You love to see it!

Top story on the IT. Can't find any mention of it anywhere on The Times or Guardian.

Shows which country actually cares about what happens in the North. Can't understand how the unionists can't see they crowd they think they are part of dont know they exist

Sinn Féin would likely be the biggest party with Michelle O’Neill becoming First Minister. The DUP would have to accept that before an election.

No actual leaders in the DUP, could be a lot of trouble up there in a few weeks, would be avoiding it like the plague. Any candidate who takes up the leadership position will have to agree with the ILA.

So Poots booted out, there's a song in that :)

There's two candidates that will gaurentee the DUP"s demise, Sammy Wilson or Paisley Junior, perhaps they could have a duel leadership roll and speed up the process of Demise :)

Arlene must be finding all this Hillarious.

So in 1-2 weeks' time, will Jeffrey be paying tribute to his predecessor ?

Some interesting points by Ben Lowry on Prime Time - says the DUP were absolutely fuming at the UK govt decision to legislate for an Irish language act last night and they were on edge and jumpy today. Thinks Poots probably miscalculated how wound up and angry the rank and file were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭human 19

so will they go even more hardline now against the protocol, and demand things that are not legally possible, thus pushing more voters to the Alliance, or are are they doing a Cameron and trying to shore up leakage to the TUV?

Delighted to see it. Maybe there’ll be an election and the Alliance party will take over. While I know it’s unlikely. This crowd are going back to the Stone Age. If my mind wasn’t made up before on a United Ireland, it is now.

Wow, Unionists complaining that Westminster is involving itself directly in NI politics.
