I have four friends, aged in the late forties/early fifties who refuse to take the vaccine, for one reason or another. While I disagree with their stance, are we really headed for a society where you will be forced to take these things or else you can't enjoy life? This is dangerous territory IMO.

I personally would be fine with that. Nobody is forcing them to be vaccinated. In fact, pubs and restaurants will probably be better off without loony anti-vaxxers around.

If people want to live in a conspiracy-theory delusion, that’s their choice. But it doesn't mean we have to respect it or accommodate them in normal society.

Good! At least some members of the cabinet are trying to stop this nonsense.

What happens if someone has a condition that does not enable them to be vaccinated? Stay at home for the rest of their lives?

    Genuine question.

So if people started banning people who ARE vaccinated from doing what's your stance?

Indoor hospitality off until July 19th in order to implement NPHET recommendation to allow vaccinated people inside or people who have recovered in last 9 months.

No business that has been closed for the best part of 8 months will turn away a paying customer.

    Fact

Remember Tony's comment about the dark cloud on the horizon?

Fully convinced now he has to be seen to be correct at all costs.

So Summer essentially gone for indoor hospitality.

Last year: "Vaccine passports make sense for international travel! Of course we're not going to have vaccine passports to go shopping or to the pub. That's ridiculous conspiracy theory nonsense!"

Now: "Of course we're going to have vaccine passports to dine indoors and go into pubs! It's a great idea! Being skeptical about the covid vaccine is ridiculous conspiracy theory nonsense!"

It sounds like when LV was saying "we'll likely just do what NPHET say", he was assuming that NPHET would be pessimistic but reasonable.

    The dark cloud is NPHET.

what can i say for once I'm not completely against what Nphet have to say! There has to be distinctions made between those vaccinated and those not. I'm currently not due to age

I don't see the problem, this should be the start of a message to say once you are vaccinated you can resume life as you were, no restrictions at all for vaccinated people fully within the next 2 months has to be the goal though.

Vaccines are obviously optional but there has to be a reward for taking it and consequences of not. Should be no delay though, open up to fully vaccinated people from tomorrow for any business that wants to open like this. scrap the half 11 tables of 6 bull**** too and the same for outdoor.

The whole spin the government are putting out that the never expected this advise is just a continuation of the **** show, surely this was a possible option. Let the vaccinated resume life fully.

Well that wouldn't happen because vaccinated people aren't a threat to public health in the way unvaccinated people are, so the question is moot.

It will do the anti-vaxxers some good to be confronted with the reality of being held accountable for their wacky beliefs.

Cabinet need to re-open hospitality. NPHET have proven to be risk adverse and their predictions have been more wrong than right. The estimation of 680k per The Times (Ireland edition) shows that they are absolutely focused in on the worst case scenario which is extremely unlikely.

However, the issue is the government and how weak they have continually responded to this pandemic. I know it has become commonplace for government to surround themselves with advisors to absolve themselves of blame but NPHET's remit does not include the economy. Advisors advise and governments govern, perhaps it would be helpful if someone reminded Varadkar, Martin and Ryan of their responsibility.

Also, journalists have also shown themselves to be useless throughout the whole pandemic. Claire Byrne and Shane Coleman in particular should receive a welfare check as they appear to be twitching the curtains too often.

The goal posts keep shifting and some in here are still running to catch up.
Most of the rest are wondering why are they bothering.

So out of touch. Your average publican just wants a constant stream of custom, very few of them would be hurrying to discriminate willingly. Most people in this country are decent, and would see great issue with separating society on these terms.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

That's that folks. No indoor hospitality this Summer. Possibly for all of 2021 if cases increase as predicted. This was our only shot.

Book yere flights for July 19th. Actually don't. That probably won't happen either.

    Mind boggling.
Not one member of cabinet thought to question the authenticity of NPHETs figures & modelling?

No country with delta variant has seen such rises - and no country in Europe with indoor dining opened has seen such rises either. Unique predictions for Ireland which will very likely, not hold true.

A threat to who? The people who are vaccinated?
Imagine if we started testing people for all sorts of illness and then said you can't come on this bus because you have HIV or you can't go to this pub because you have diabetes and might collapse on the floor.
