I am sure other countries have the equivalent of NPHET but don't adopt everything they suggest
    Spineless

Tenerife went back up a level last week to stop indoor dining amongst other restrictions, this was because a small region in the north went out of control, but the entire island was punished. The hotel, bar and restaurant association took the government to court straight away and this morning won their case to get back the right to allow indoor use. Why can't Ireland do something like this, no fight back from these associations that are paid to do just this.

    What?

There was a court case just last week, the judge held it over until there was clarification on whether they'd be allowed open on July 5th.

Stretched health service, especially ICU that can be overwhelmed quickly. We had people on trolleys before this, another massive surge like January quickly breaks the system.

Ireland also naturally cautious, we've had very very few national emergencies in our history - no massive loss of lives like from an earthquake etc - so we are not inured to it. We still look back to the famine 170 years ago in shock, but there's nothing like this in living history
A surge like January with the vast majority of vulnerable people vaccinated? Not very likely imo.

Did Leo Varadkar not say the pandemic was over a few weeks ago?

I am no fan of Leo, but Ill give him his due, he defied NPHET on more than one occasion.

    I don't disagree.

But I just don't understand how they can be so dim, it will be an extremely unpopular decision...people will remember when it comes to reelection time.

I understand we have been more cautious than other countries when re-opening...but this is taking the p#ss

Donnelly is absolutely spoofing here, basically saying they don't support the legal basis of the Green Cert where a clear test is sufficient.

This isn't really about hospitality - it's about a regime that cannot take any decision that isn't around covering their collective backsides. It's hospitality today, it will be travel in the next few weeks and it will be schools and colleges next. There will always be reasons not to do something and these will always, it seems, be the only consideration.

If we can't move ahead in July can you just imagine what October and November are going to be like...

I want to fricking live my life and have a right to earn a living. . ..in the tourism business. We are being controlled by a couple of despots .. .chancers the lot of them

We have to learn to live with Covid. .like they do on the Continent. There will be many more variants ..we cannot keep controlling the population ..many of whom are vaccinated.

ICU numbers and hospital numbers are low.. The curve is flattened and hospital not overrun ..goalposts moved again. We will be locked down again for winter if Tony H has his way.

Don't be expecting a return to normality for Chistmas 2021. .. I seem to remember Tony H warning

Am beyond mad. .time to protest and demand strong leadership! .

Completely sensible decision, after all we've gone through to risk our progress for the sake of a few weeks would be madness. If pubs open its a free for all no matter what publicans say. Once their doors open they don't give a **** what people do inside.

I agree, but that's what NPHET presented as a possibility last night. Be a very brave Taoiseach to ignore what NPHET publicly announced. Would be all 'business and money before lives!!!!' instead on here and twitter

Leo is summing up today with the words "hope" and "honesty".

I'd have gone with "shower" and "cúnts" personally.

LVA, VFI and RAI all saying they will reject the vaccinated only plan. Surely out the window now?

LVA, VFO and RAI need to come out with a statement that Tony Holohan and every other member of NPHET are barred from every one of their members premises for life, with no remission.

They then need to group together and go to court and have these ridiculous restrictions overturned.

It won't be just a couple of weeks. They intend to have a "plan" by the 19th for implementation. Also this is impacting all indoor activities. Please stop going on about drink only. Summer camps cancelled, indoor training put back again. It's never ending.
