Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ehime - Supposedly yellow stands for happiness, green for peace and white for simplicity and purity. In any case I like it

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Ehime - different from most here with the borders, and pleasing colour combo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

    Like both but Ehime

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,445 ✭✭✭davetherave

Ehime. Could go far in this. Nice colour combination.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭BrianBoru00

    Ehime - mesmirising.
quite like Nara too but Ehime has something soothing about it

    Ehime is like summer sun

    That concludes Round 2. Here are your Elite Eight in alphabetical order, which we'll sort out on another day;
    Aichi

    Ehime

    Fukuoka

    Hokkaido

    Niigata

    Okayama

    Saitama

    Shizuoka

Guys, quarter final action kicking off in 10 minutes

Each match will have a 25 minute time limit with the usual caveats.

Aichi. Background colour is better, and the pattern is somehow nicer and more contained.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,625 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Aichi more a happy flag with emoji

    Aichi

    Aichi nicer colour, tidier symbol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    Aichi
White stylized Hiragana character of Aichi on wine red colour field. The emblem also expresses sunrise and wave to indicate Aichi's location facing the Pacific Ocean.

    Saitama
Sixteen red ornamental beads on white field. Saitama means ornamental bead and 16 beads in circle represent sun, development and strength. White stands for purity and friendship

I seem to be alone here but I like Saitama, I like the colour red, the beads are very pretty.

Also Urawa Red Diamonds are my favourite Japanese team. Urawa city was in Saitama.

Aichi. I really like that symbol, it seems very uplifting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

I prefer Saitama but am too late, and appear solidly beaten regardless :D

Ehime - the most unusual one left, I think. I like the colour scheme, and it's less Union Jack-like than the other.

Hokkaido for the win. They are a one island prefecture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Ahhhhh - this is tough, it's like apples and oranges here - I'm gonna vote for ... Ehime; bright, cheerful, different

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

I like them both. They're both unusual but Ehime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Tight, but I'm going to give my vote to Ehime here. Mainly because it is so different to all the others.

Hopefully my vote counts for more than my vote in the Scottish Elections yesterday did!

Ehime - prefer the colour combination and design

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,625 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

    Ehime nicer brighter colours

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    Ehime really nice colours

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    Hokkaido
White fringed red 7 points star on blue field. Blue represents sea and sky of Hokkaido, red stands for people's energy and white for light and snow. Star stands for hope and development

    Ehime
Losing my touch. can't find anything.

    Ehime
Because it's pretty and doesn't look as much a geometric logo as the others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,714 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Both bad flags. Ehime edges it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Fairly unanimous. My favourite says sayonara.

Fukuoka - for its Celtic vibe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Fukuoka I just love those colours and the plum flower is pretty :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,445 ✭✭✭davetherave

Fukuoka, the other one doesn't know whether it wants to be Chinese or something Elvish. That's far too vague for a flag. This is serious business. My reasoning for Fukuoka stands as per the last round.
Fukuoka - Blue beats purple and there is endless things that it could represent, a Celtic knot, Spaghetti Junction on the M6 outside of Birmingham, an octopus doing his best Harry Houdini escapism act, a poorly designed version of the 5 rings on some knock-off, cheap, fake Olympic Games merchandise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Niigata prefer the colours and design. Not sure about the celtic knot.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Niigata. Love the yellow on red

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    Fukuoka
White plum flower emblem on light blue field. Plum is a prefecture flower and the emblem stands for harmony and progress of people.

    Niigata
The emblem represents friendship and hope of people.

I prefer Niigata. I love yellow and red on the flags

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

Niigata, yellow and red obviously is a good combination

If I want Celtic knots, I'll check the book of kells or riverdance

Niigata - the yellow on red is very striking

    It's a tie... Standby for a decision...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,978 ✭✭✭Citizenpain

Late at work...would have gone with Niigata

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

    This is a tough one but I'm gonna consider that some posters touched on the same ideas and they're ones I agree with. The flow and the symmetry as mentioned here;
Fukuoka - simple and i like a symmetrical design
Fukuoka, has a nice flow to it.

I have to admit, though, davetherave's reason is probably what clinches it though.

Fukuoka as it gives a sea vibe

Shizuoka orange on blue, very effective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,625 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Okayama, Japan's Barney colour is more striking :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Definitely Shizuoka here, my favourite by a distance in this competition.

    Colours, design, mountain, everything works.

    Shizuoka best flag in competition
