Hundreds of thousands of Euro in tax payer funded salaries.

    That's all that counts

Was funny to hear him on Pat Kenny show saying Willie Walsh knew nothing about flying.

He was an Aer Lingus pilot sure and Murphy had no answer when that was pointed out

He reduces everything to worker workshy and bosses

    FYP

Because the real endpoint to any question he answers is a changeover to communism, he just ensures that the airtime wraps before the debate gets that far. His agenda is a socialist revolution which means he can't work with anyone that isn't also pushing a socialist revolution (along with the narrow parameters he sets for it).

Joe Higgins also coronated him to take over his position as chief shouter in the Dáil which was nepotism by any other name :)

In fairness to Joe he knew how to debate and had a nice style within DE.

I’m not a socialist, but Richie BB is a way more likeable and pragmatic sort of dude than Murphy. Murphy is obsessed with Marxism, and seeing everything through a very narrow prism. Completely uncompromising. Almost religious in his beliefs. There’s also something a bit ‘off’ about him. No humanity there at all.

I’d say you could go for a few pints with Boyd Barrett and not talk politics.

It just shows how flawed our democratic system is when there wasn't one positive response on the opening page, for someone who was elected by the people.

We're raised to believe we live in the perfect system but when you analyse the nuts and bolts of it... it doesn't really work that way does it?(also see opinions on issues like Immigration, MUP... the electorate seem to be on the complete opposite end to our representatives).

Thank **** he gets little airtime these days.

Paul Murphy gets more airtime than most

If a radio show wants someone for a 10 minute slot they have Murphy on speed dial

Actual knowledge of the subject not necessary, Murphy will show up

I heard him last week about Keelings and their harvest workers
Not a supporter of any of these far left or whatever they claim to be but most of them are just loud mouths who cannot work together so just keep latching on to any flavour of the moment cause to keep them noticed .They have no realistic solutions to anything and never will have anything to offer except waffle .

Before the last election Paul Murphy saw a trend for green/environmental issues and became the most green politican ever seen

But he never mentioned these policies before  and once he got his seat he didn't mention them again

    Bandwagon jumper indeed

It doesn't say much of anything other than that posters on a Sunday to boards current affairs forum and a thread about Paul Murphy didn't have anything positive. To infer anything else about the irish democracy in general would be a bit of a stretch.

What’s the point of Paul Murphy?

Each component organ and structure of the body politic is essential to its healthy functioning, just as with the organic body. Except the appendix of course. That either does feckall of any use, or makes a nuisance of itself. He could be the political equivalent of the appendix?

My vote would be for political anus though. Occasionally raises an unfortunate stink, and regularly releases shyte. And best not discussed in polite company.

A decent handful of far left representatives but not one far right or nationalist.

    It's all one sided

He’s a yupee with daddys money who thinks his college education makes him know whats best for the working classes who he regularly exploits their propensity for violence to get him in newspaper headlines. He’s the irish definition of white saviour complex.

Thankfully his brand of violent extreme leftism keeps the far left from ever making any real inroads to politics here

One of the most dislike able people in the country and that takes some doing. He seems to jump on whatever anti Garda bandwagon going, strikes me as someone who got caught drink driving before or caught with a joint as a young fella and has a vendetta against them. Same with Hazel Chu

They got about six weeks worth of tweets and retweets when Gardai shot George Nkeocho. I don't recall a single world when Detective Colm Horkan was shot dead.

When you say one sided what you really mean is the democratic will of the people.
Paul Murphy was elected like it or not, the national party racists were not elected. That Eddie was the democratic will of the people.

Is Paul Murphy supposed to represent the big scary far left?
Duck me that's a comical take.

I disagree with pretty much everything you say on here Eric, and would be on the opposite side of most of your arguments, but that 1st paragraph I could not agree with more.

Now I need to go take a looong shower......

Far left is extreme communism ie Lenin, Stalin, North Korea, Chairman Mao.

I don't know much about Murphy but just from short clips he is no communist. There isn't a single elected political figure in this country that is more than leaning left from what I have seen.

James Connolly was much further to the left than any current elected TD.

MM heavily involved in the crisis of 2008, 13 years later we make him leader of the country. Now presiding over a disaster effort of Covid19.

Eoghan Murphy resigned during the week, he failed miserably with his housing brief, off he rides into the sunset with 70k and a nice pension.

Education minister Norma Foley is the worst I've ever seen, but it's ok because she's a woman. In no other sector would her level of incompetence be ignored.

Murphy and BB are tools but we do need these people to call out the government for their mistakes. SF are just perpetual losers who are afraid of actually being elected to power. Cowards.

Would you rather our TDs weren't paid?

Hes like that person who read Marx the first week of college and started injecting it into every conversation they had for the rest of the year. Most of those people thankfully quickly figured out they were insufferable tools as well as that the whole Marxist theory never actually works in practice so they quickly grew out of it as they realised nobody wanted to be friends with them.

Murphy missed that key second step.

I remember another student googling Che Geuara in university library (that was before mobile Internet) and explaining to me that he really liked the t-shirts and he wanted to find out a bit more what Geuara was about.

Paul Murphy strikes me as someone who became left wing activist because it was something that he considers cool to do. You can wear plo scarf if they are still around or Che t-shirt and look coolant self important protesting. It's a safe position because his grouping (whatever they are called now) will never go properly into government so they can't be proven wrong. They can oppose everything without actually doing anything..
