I am both happy and reassured that someone who knows what he is talking about is prepared to talk about it and is willing to ignore the utter rubbish being thrown at him for doing his job.

Holohan was appointed to be relevant, not to be popular. I disagreed with how he handled the Lidl Antigen kits but he is dead right to highlight the irresponsible stupidity he saw in Dublin the other day

Tony Holohan got another quote-dig in at the youth of today, this time referencing Croke Park - great for headlines, as he well knows.

Claims it is not a "moral" statement, but it is clearly a moral admonition.

He will do whatever it takes to remain in the spotlight and as "relevant" as possible.

Sure will if people keep talking about him. Just ignore and get on with things.

Not to rehash old arguments but funny and sad to see Tony desperately trying to admonish young people telling them they’re still vulnerable while NIAC simultaneously telling us that the dangers of AZ/J&J to the same age group is more than the chance of Covid hitting them badly.

We have hit the young with the longest wait for the vaccine, ruined their housing end job prospects for years to come, and yet still they’re the first people society blames.

    Thanks for that Tony

Was fairly certain your remit was to advise government though

Apparently he is a litter warden now.

How old do you have to be before you understand that anyone who has the virus is a potential virus spreader?

Nobody is being blamed for who they are. They are being blamed for what they do.

May as well remain in lockdown forever so.

Most vunerable are vaccinated and under a 100 in hospital in a population of 4,900,000.

Gauruntee you a lot of those 100 in hospital have underlying conditions or are over 70.

We are at 400 cases a day with feck all going to hospital.

During the 17/18 flu season 4700 were hospitalized.

Time to move on from Covid now and let people have their summer.

Tide seems to be turning against Tony in the last few days - Some Mirror "journalist" hammered him the weekend in one article and there was another one in the Indo today saying something similar.

Tonys days in the spotlight are numbered.

True, it's worse - the Indian variant.

It's not B16171.2 though, which is more transmissible. It's B16171.1 which isn't as tranmissble as the .2 option.

You answered it yourself here. There is no big hidden agenda.

Just a bunch of very well paid cowards taking advice from a bunch of risk adverse, very well paid doctors. None of them have suffered or will suffer too much from any economic downturn.

If questions are ever asked they'll all just shrug their shoulders and mumble something about "saving lives".

Easier to just borrow billions, sit in lockdown for months and months and hit the tax payers hard down the line.
You still haven't answered the specific why "they want to drag out the restrictions for as long as possible"

He's definitely enjoying the limelight, I think twitter opens up hidden narcisissm in people, they start looking at how many followers and likes they get, and it begins to become a habit for them.

I do think there is a bit of truth in the likes of Holohan treating this as a form of public abstinence from alcohol where possible. For years he's been vocal about the Irish "problem" with alchohol.

When you've got someone that is anti alcohol their dislike of it clouds their judgement.

Me, I want alcohol itself to cloud mine.

There has to be a middle ground. They can take a ramble around town with a few friends - put something in a flask to quench the thirst and wander around. I did that as a student. It can be quite fun and you get a better quality of time with your friends than in a shouting mob crammed into a narrow street that has a much higher risk of spreading covid.

Can somebody provide links to quotes where people are admonishing the young.
I'm of the opinion that the people being criticised are the idiots out on the street being irresponsible and careless. I don't think their age has anything to do with it.

Well that's the governments fault then.

They are actually so naïve its unbelievable. House parties have been rampant across Ireland since the pandemic began.

Now that the weather is nicer we are seeing more and more people outside.

It would be great if there was regulated place like pubs or beer gardens they could go to. Outdoor beer gardens and outdoor dining in restraunts should have been opened when the over 60's were all vaccinated.

To be honest, there aren't that many beer gardens in the country, even if they all were open. What do you think the government should have done? Pedestrianise all town centres?

If we accept that outdoor socialising, even in extreme crowded situations, is safer than indoors, that means it is still better have indoor hospitality closed.

I think he’s braver than that, he’s proven that he is, he’s not afraid to call people out and tell it like it is. He is not in the spotlight, he’s in a position of responsibility and not afraid to shoot from the hip from the get go. His interest is in the health of human beings, as a collective.

You are quoting the Mirror ( an outright rag ) and the Independent ( hardly these days a bastion of truth, fairness and good judgement...

Have an outdoor summer they said, meet outdoors only they said.

But what do they do? They go lock up, block off and seal outdoor areas where people gather. Those scumbags at DCC have already started sealing off the Iveagh Gardens and St.Stephens Green.

What a horrible, horrible country to live in right now. Ireland truly is in a grim state.

That's because Tony holohans warped vision of an outdoor summer is 5 people sitting 2 meters apart in a field in rural cavan sipping Capri Suns.

Anyone know if there is any other country in Europe waiting until July 5th for indoor dining?

The state of the faux outrage surrounding Holohan, Glynn was the target for many months and it was embarrassing, the man is the target for everyones frustration surrounding the pandemic its the same with politicians who'd wanna be one with this level of moaning.

He is most certainly both... admirable qualities given the situation we’ve been faced with.

I know lots of the current populous would have preferred a simp who could scratch their eyeball with their tongue and who would baulk at challenging and demanding the population to take responsibility and play their part... Tony just told it as it was, thankfully... lives were saved.

Good news, discretion is the better part of valor in this situation.

If we’d followed the lead of other European countries... erm, no thanks.

Ireland suffered a bad case of dementia with this one. Tony Holohan is a scumbag to the highest degree humanly possible.

How has everyone forgotten about the cervical cancer scandal! You know, the one where Irish Women needlessly died at the hands of a failed medical system. Tony Holohan refused to apologize for that. He flat out refused. Not an ounce of integrity in his body.

He is a power hungry, fame chasing, deluded civil servant that should have never been given the media limelight he is so desperate to hold onto now

That "dark cloud" statement and his tweet on Monday morning were a national disgrace. He needs to have strong words spoken to him.

That is just despicable nonsense about a public servant doing his public service job. He had no reason to apologise over cervical check. He didn't run it and anyway independent reviews found the problem cases were no higher than the international norm. The "scandal" was a failure to communicate results to women who had already been diagnosed and were being treated. Educate yourself before posting such abuse.

Yes Tony you've lost the public.

Complaining about young people enjoying themselves during the summer, go away to feck and back into your hole.

Country should be fully open now with moderate restrictions in place.

    He hasn’t lost the public.

I’ve talked to numerous members of the public since Saturday last (due to my job) and ppl strongly backing him and anti the “revellers”.
