Post-COVID immunity now 9 months according to HIQA. They've also made some comments about shots for the under 50s.

In reality, it's even longer than that, possibly lifelong.

Yeah, they'll just keep updating that period as time goes by! Even so regular boosters for some very vulnerable groups would not be a surprise.

UK wil be in trouble with the Indian variant in a few weeks. Appears more serious that the Kent variant. Hopefully our vaccination rollout continues to supress the cases.

Paul Reid boasting that nearly 3 million are vaccinated. I’m glad he is on such big wages.

Does the vaccine work on it ?

England missing out on there last big reopening would be a disaster for us with the way were copying their reopening structure

The statement that for the majority of people it stops them getting the virus, is patently untrue.

What is proven so far is that it reduces the risk of transmission, serious illness and hospitalisation.

How will they be "in trouble" exactly?

Their hospitalisations are dropping all the time and the vaccines work against it.

    This isn't April 2020

Sorry if this has been answered already. I went back about 10 pages.

The HSE clearly know the daily figures by county. They tell us Limerick is the worst so they must know everyone else.

Why are they not telling us?

    The Aliens have landed?

Maybe they do and they're doing manual calculations or maybe their getting total figures for each week?

The recent figures relate to increases over the past fortnight which detail that more than 800 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Limerick.

I can't see what they are "they not telling us" tbh.

Kingston Mills was talking about the reduced effectiveness of one dose of AZ against the Indian Variants. Maybe the UK are too reliant on a one dose strategy?

40% of the UK are fully vaccinated already, increasing rapidly too.

Good point. Tht could have played a part yea. Vast majority of hospitalized cases are in the unvaccinated atm but their is some data to suggest that they are not as effective against the delta variant

Just read it the main picture about the incidence being high and vaccine effectiveness lessened!

I really hope that the fact we’ve used the majority of the mRNA vaccines on our population will stop any sort of panic!
They still don’t have full data so they’re being cautious

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭Cork2021

And it’s worth stating that the job of all of the vaccines is to stop hospitalisations and death.
Lucky here that we’ve only 115 cases of Delta

As much as we need to be cautious this man really is insufferable.

It borders on spite, "I'd advise restaurants not to overstock". Any livelihood but yours, eh? These people need to be denied the oxygen of publicity. Zero Covid is an impossibility, as was zero flu year after year. This "happy to sacrifice legions of jobs and bankrupt the country to stop a single trolley in the HSE corridor next January" mentality is ludicrous. If one desired to eliminate risk completely, they should never get out of bed again. Great to be smugly pontificating on a handsome salary, I suspect many of these fanatics want to keep themselves in the limelight to supplement their finances. And the media spoonfeeding them. Cringeworthy.

That sort is messaging just dosent help. We need calm , reasonable messaging from medical professional's . Advice should be that it is wise to act cautious until you have been vaccinated, outdoor activities etc. Especially in the east of the country where the majority of the delta variant have been detected. Think of the long term rather than the short term and make rationale decisions. Personally I will stick to outdoors. Sports, meet people(probably limited to a few) . Attend Sports events .

Except on the 60-69 group . A vulnerable group who are now slightly less protected it seems .

But should be protected especially once we’re near herd immunity through mass vaccination! I think we’ll be okay just need to be cautious but start to get on with things as well.
