    What epimiologists and data modellers?

Also Russia only sequence <200 samples per week. Delta may well be dominant but its impossible to say based on that alone.

Depends how they sequence. If random it’s possible to say with a confidence interval. If not, which is probably the case as they a likely going after cases associated with travel, you probably can’t

The reason Israel is doing so well is because of low cases and high vaccination rates. I'd like to see similar happen here. It would greatly decrease the likely hood of restrictions in the future. More transmissible variants seem to be happening very frequently.
Given the very few Greek letters we've used up so far that seems somewhat untrue. Variants or variations in genomes pop up all the time. Let's not forget that not one of these VOCs is escaping vaccines.

True but that CI would be huge.

Holohan must be frothing at the mouth at the prospect of being back in the spotlight, promoting the next round of restrictions.

It was only a matter of time. Once the UK postpones re-opening, it is only a matter of time before NPHET rear their ugly heads and demand exactly the same approach.

We keep vaccinating at the rate we’re going and get the 60-69 done ASAP with 2 doses then there’s no reason we can’t keep moving on

Every case and every vaccine dose that is given out on a daily basis brings us closer to herd immunity on this island! We’ve over 5million doses given out nearly 2 million of our most vulnerable and HCW fully vaccinated on the island! Nearly 6.8million people on the island. Every day there’s 40k at least given! Let’s get on with life!!

Time for you to stop your anti Holohan/anti NPHET chlidish rants. The vast majority of people now consider that he and they have been absolutely correct in their advice all along. You also need to grow up and dump that cringeworthy signature on your profile pronto.

    9 euro meals?

Shutting off summer last year when the rest of Europe did just fine?

Premature lockdown in October, leading to a predictable surge in Dec-Jan with the 2-week freer period prior?

    Antigen testing?

    Late quarantine proposals?

I could go on. But the idea that NPHET have been an inerrant font of wisdom during the pandemic is palpably absurd.

I wouldn't use the word "absolutely" but "largely" yes. They have, however, not been good on communications at times, something they've acknowledged themselves.

They have also had Ireland under Europe’s longest strictest lockdown since March 2020

Why would Europe’s youngest population require such lengthy suppression?

500,000 emigrated from Ireland between 1945 and 1960, our vulnerable were protected by the nhs and the us healthcare, not nPHEt

What version of covid did Ireland get that we closed construction for 5 months but in no other country? Further obliterating the chances of home ownership for many in this country?

NPHET’s at times used other countries situation as a justification for lockdown in Ireland

Lockdown was and is NPHET’s only plan

To take just this issue. Anyone who was moaning and whinging about the 9 euro meals rule has no understanding of the reasoning behind it.

The only reason the 9e meal thing happened was because some smartarse civil servant found the relevant piece in legislation from the early 1900 and decided to have fun with it.

Fortunately none of the locals here bothered with that 9 euro nonsense.

Buy a sandwich for 9 euro and get a free pint, then tell them to keep the sandwich.

Then the time limits, greatest encouragement to make sure people moved from place to place coming into as many contacts as possible.

    A table in venue A at 2pm, venue B at 4pm, C at 6pm......

    Genius!

Yes, madness, with an illness spread by coughing and sneezing
And while nurses were arguing that all patient facing interactions needed masks and all patients needed to be screened before admission and discharge, the powers that be in the HSE were castigating nurses for " wasting PPE"?
Meanwhile a lot of infection was spread and a lot of hcws infected.

He told us not to wear masks

He told nursing homes restricting visitors would do more damage to the residents than the virus would. Only when bodies started piling up, he advised restrictions be introduced.

Panic rushed the country into level 5 before passing advice to the government

Inexplicable anti science for antigen testing

Bashes young people of holding up their side of the bargain and #holdingfirm once the go outside for a drink.

Is that a fact doc? Do tell us how many positive Covid cases there were as a result of ignoring the "nonsense".

Not sure, I am sure you have the numbers of cases, plates of chicken goujons prevented to hand though.

That and the fact until very recently - the countries borders were effectively closed.

Masks.. It was the advice as per Who at the time unfortunately.

Nursing homes... visiting.. That was advice that changed within a few days.
HSE shipping old people off back without a negative test first and poaching hcws from nursing homes was the main reason for the terrible loss of life there.. Not NPHET.

Whatever about the government if he advised level 5 then it was the government who had been ignoring repeated warnings from Glynn ( remember all his warnings and pleading last September) that were to blame in that instance.

Agreed on the young people.. More should have been done by DCC and the guards as well at the outset to regulate crowds and make facilities available.

As for the other posts talking about the 9 euro meal, what a pathetic whinge after all that has gone on since then.
